Paul,
There are a few anecodotal reports of naltrexone being added to other antidepressants where it was "super" either (a) restoring the power of an AD that had pooped-out or (b) increasing the power of an AD that gave only partial benefit alone. Those reports used regular doses: 25 or 50 mg/day. As far as I know, regular-dose naltrexone isn't promoted for use on its own to treat depression.
This is an off-label use. I had a lot of trouble finding a pdoc willing to prescribe it, but it's at least as safe & tolerable as most ADs. Did you see the posts by Wayne R? He said 25 mg/day added to Prozac "changed my life." http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/19990301/msgs/3454.html

People all over the Web swear by LOW-DOSE naltrexone for multiple sclerosis, immune disorders, Crohn's, etc etc etc. In LDN you take 2-8 mg/day, often at special times (trying to track the body's endorphin production), and not necessarily as an adjunct to other medicine. So far it also has only anecdotal support. Lunesta (has Babblemail) says LDN helped with libido, fibromyalgia, and mood: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20051017/msgs/568245.html

Naltrexone is prescribed at 25 or50 mg/day to help people stop drinking, since it cancels the mood-lift from booze.

Naltrexone on its own probably won't help much with depression. But combined with ssri's, most especially prozac for some reason, it can work well. I tried it years ago and it did help noticeably with depression and feeling relaxed and sociable. I was looking for an anti-anhedonia remedy though, and it didn't work for that. Funny, I hardly ever drink. I was out to dinner one night and ordered a glass of wine knowing I would get a huge buzz off of it. But, no buzz at all. Then I remembered...ahh, the naltrexone!

After having having 2 days off, i relapsed, after vseeing my Doc for an Eye infection.
My Anxiety is not being treated well enought-damn it. I need a long acting agent Diaz, Clonaz+an acute add on Xanax, which i sugested to my PCDoc, he ignormed me.
No wonder there are so many Alcoholics.
I have been referred to a D@A team, and will voice my concerns there, until then, it's the Valium 5s@booze i guess-it just works too damn well?
If i had the proper pills, i'd not drink, however?
Cheers-esp Phillipa xxx
