I really need some insight...me and my parents discussed options to help me.I did the hospital thing once, and i do NOT will NOT go again.
I dont like my laces to my shoes taken,i dont like being talked to like an iddiot, and like a baby by some 19 old intern.
I dont like being patranized by them either.I dont like talk therapy sessions with strangers,i dont need random people to hear my life, and i dont need to know others, people beside me,there stories and current treatments scared the living hell out of me.
What makes hopsitals think that OPEN sharing is good for everyone, maybe some people want there problems private with a select few or professional.
I dont like the cold white beds, and i just will not go,ill gladly go to ER take scans eegs whatever but i told them i will not go to a hospital, there is not direct access to a docter,ur not getting much more time with a doc,i just dont see it as a option.soooooo
WHAT I ASK HERE IS......does there exist a type of p-doc who provides more than a 15 min med check. Are there any docs who can devote hrly sessions as a therpaist can.Me and my family want to explain fully how certain drugs respond, via dose amount, time of day, combbination etc
We wanna get into detail with the drug prescribed and my moods to them.We need more than a 5 min whisk thats so fast im babbling like a fool just to get in simply what i NEED refilled, nevertheless discuss them in detail.
I will ask my doc office monday if my doc allows for extra payment this type of extended service.I am getting no where with 5 min med checks and hour therapy is great time wise but as u know they cant touch meds. The whole process is just whacked..
I dont see how a doc can work with adjusting 2-3 meds, there dose, there time of day dosing, deceding if they are even working in 5 min time.
I thought there was a type of doc that was not only a thrapist but also an md who can use meds too.
If i had an hour to combine details of my life,my everday behaviour,as well as know aside from discussion medication can be tweaked to my info as well, then i would LOVE THE ODEA OF THERAPY.
YESS dont shove a drug at me,listen to me,my behaviour,my reaction to things, but have the power to not only offer cognitive therapy but medication as well! One person, one visit, this is need dedsperatly.

One idea might be to request that your p-doc coordinate your care with a therapist, so that they can discuss your progress and questions with each other. Where I live the treatments are provided separately, as contrary to intuition as it seems.

Well they are in the same office, and in THEORY all therapists there are supposed to be working with the p-docs......i know this is certainly not the case.
I could mention it but honestly all it would do is make mine snap at me,and then she might ask the therapis a ques here or there just to be underguidelines, but generaly speaking i dont think the two docs work togther there and thats what i will start to look for.

The roles of Pdocs and T's varies from state to state. I think Pdocs used to have longer session, but the way most insurance companies are set up, 15min once a month is considered enough. Your Pdoc doesn't sound willing to spend more time, so I would look for a new one. Maybe your regular Doc knows someone.
Good luck.

Willyee figure this one out. I have Medicare for Disability. Since I've been driving two hours for an appointment I requested a half hour. For l5min price was $l7 and for 30min $22. Shouldn't the added time equal $34? And I know the therapist and pdoc don't communicate. I was given my chart and read it while waiting for my appointment and the pdoc didn't have a clue. Last pdoc I had did his own therapy and prescribe meds. But now he's under investigation for illegal distribution of drugs and insurance fraud. And since we're moving to Charlotte this week I asked for a referral to a pdoc who does both. Pdoc laughed at me. Fondly, Phillipa

Hi willyee,
It sounds to me like you are looking for more time with someone to talk about meds, versus having a five minute med check and then therapy. Is that right?
There are pdocs who do therapy, or who at least will spend more time with you. I see mine for an hour each time, although lately I wonder if it's worth the time and price. (I also see a therapist.) It may require you to change pdocs, and this can take lots of phone calls to find someone who does that who is also taking new clients. You might try looking in the phone book under psychotherapists to see if any MD's are listed. You might also see if there is a referral service for pdocs from your state's professional organization for psychiatry. It's usually called [state name] Psychiatric Association.
Good luck.

Yep. Many of the pdocs I called wouldn't consider it. I actually got very lucky when I finally gave up and called back the one person I knew was taking new patients. She has experience with MAOI's and had no problem keeping me on Nardil.
I hope you have the same luck.

hi willyee-- i can understand what you want and why you want it. right now, i have the once a month med check type of psychiatrist/psychopharmacologist, but in the past, i've had two great psychiatrists who saw me for an hour two or three times a week. i think the psychiatrists who do therapy tend to be psychoanalytically trained or in training. more often than not, though, insurance will only cover a certain small number, if any, of therapy sessions with a psychiatrist. i was lucky that my parents were able and willing to pay out of pocket for the rest of what i needed. i hope you have good luck in finding the type of psychiatric care you're looking for. i really miss my last two psychiatrists, and i wish, too, that i had a pdoc who would do meds and talk to me for longer than fifteen minutes a month.
