hi willyee-- i can understand what you want and why you want it. right now, i have the once a month med check type of psychiatrist/psychopharmacologist, but in the past, i've had two great psychiatrists who saw me for an hour two or three times a week. i think the psychiatrists who do therapy tend to be psychoanalytically trained or in training. more often than not, though, insurance will only cover a certain small number, if any, of therapy sessions with a psychiatrist. i was lucky that my parents were able and willing to pay out of pocket for the rest of what i needed. i hope you have good luck in finding the type of psychiatric care you're looking for. i really miss my last two psychiatrists, and i wish, too, that i had a pdoc who would do meds and talk to me for longer than fifteen minutes a month.
