Anybody ever thought of this I was just wondering maybe I have had a negative placebo. Prior to me taking the drugs I have heard so much negative press and bad experiences about Effexor and other AD's that thinking in my mind might cause it to react that way.

I think it can happen...if you read placebo-controlled studies, you'll see that lots of patients report problems usually associated with the class of drug they're in the study for (ex: antipsychotic studies show pretty high rates of akathisia and drowsiness for placebo). But...that doesn't mean your problems are placebo-based; you're taking real drugs, and real drugs cause real problems. Really. When in doubt with these things, I think its best to err on the side of caution so..if you're having serious problems with meds, just assume that its the MEDICATION--not your mind--causing the problem. Yes, it may drive your shrink crazy, but better cause a bit of trouble for the doc than go through hell on the off-chance it may "just be in your head".

I agree. The problem I had with this was to frequent calls to pdoc when meds were switched made pdoc not take me seriously. And they were very real. Fondly, Phillipa

When I finally got xanax ( drug number 26 !!)I was terrified by the negative press it gets and very very doubtful that it could work.
It did and still does! not quite the effect you are speaking of , but xanax did overcome my negative placebo effect.Glenn
