Hi,
I'm curious. Has anyone tried Ambien CR yet? It's just been launched in the US. Since standard Ambien often fails to keep people asleep throughout the night, controlled-release Ambien sounds like a useful med.
Anyone tried it yet? Anyone want to?

I still have samples of the original Ambien that I've never tried (too scared to, LOL).
My question is wouldn't an extended release form make you tired/sleepy the next day? Or is it only to release for a certain amount of hours while you sleep?

Spriggy, why are you scared to try it? I must say I looooove (regular) ambien. It provides a quiet, restful night and a true break from my worries. I think I am so fond of it b/c it is one of my drugs that I know is working as well as it is supposed to!
Are you afraid that you won't wake up in an emergency? (If not, I hope that I didn't give you a new fear). I used to worry about that too, especially since I live alone. However, (okay, don't laugh at me), the other night my cat was coughing on a hairball, and it woke me up. I thought that this sequence of events was kind of sweet. Like how moms wake up when their baby starts fussing. Also, it makes me think that if I needed to wake up, I still would.
Best,
EE

I'd love to try it! I'm on Parnate, one of the worst meds for insomnia, and find 20mg Ambien to be the best sleep aid. I told my psychiatrist about the CR version last week (we joke that if I stop seeing her, she'll no longer have the latest drug/technology info!) and she said it was odd because Ambien has a half-life that shouldn't lead to more wakefulness during the night (any of you chemistry geniuses feel free to disagree!). However, I'd like to try it because I DO have nights where I sleep 2-3 hours and then wake up for the rest of the night. I'll see her tomorrow and try to get an Rx since I now know it's available. If I get it, I'll post with results asap. Thanks for the info, Ed. Take care, Lauren.

Usually not - it still has a short duration of action, probably shorter than Restoril.
