I posted this somewhere up there but not as a question.
I was on Klonopin for a few months (and oddly enough it was the time they diagnosed me with Lupus).I quit taking it.. Then the last few weeks, my asthma meds have caused me to be a bit jittery and more anxious so I took some Klonopin again.
I've noticed that I'm feeling that same general malaise feeling. It makes me feel as if I have a fever (but when I take my temp I don't), and it makes me feel kind of weak and sickly.
Does anyone know if this is a common side effect?
I KNOW it has to be the Klonopin. I'm fine all day until I take the Klonopin in the evening, then that feeling hits me about an hour later..

Some people, not many I suppose, actually become really depressed, even suicidal, on benzos.

yup. benzos and other sedatives in general can worsen or cause depressive episodes. Among the benzos, klonopin is probably one of the worst offenders. Maybe you could switch? Librium or Tranxene could work just as well with lower risks of causing these problems...Tranxene can actually help a bit when you're depressed.

Hi Med, are you feeling better? I hope so. Do you think valium also depresses you? If so how come when I took it in the 70's it relaxed me so I could function again? Fondly, Phillipa

I am not depressed, it's an actual physical feeling like I am coming down with something.. I feel feverish.
You know how you feel when you are sick with the flu or have a fever, your body is just worn out and weak? That's how I feel.
I wouldn't describe this as depression... I just feel sickly.

In reply to not depression... feverish?, posted by spriggy on July 31, 2005, at 19:08:51
Klonopin SUCKS
I take 5mg (yes that is 5mg not .5mg) daily for SEVERE panic attacks, which i am a bit agintated with my doctor for this antipanic med that causes depression.
I feel , very sluggish. Makes me mad! mad mad mad BUT one thing that is peculer about it is that i work out about 1 hour a day, i can take more strenemous loads with out getting tired, its seems to hold off the psyhical stress.
Spriggy dont you take .25mg of Klonopin? well last time i checked.....
anyways

Hi
I guess I one of those weirdos who will probably hold on to my clonazepam daily as needed forever. I also use 40mgs. Inderal (propanolol) 40mgs.IR 3 x's daily. The clonazepam under my tongue is a lifesaver to me for what I call 'intellectual/mental' anxiety/panic.
The Inderal annihilates my physical symptoms like feeling shaky and feeling like my chest is being squeezed tight. Yes, I've had the heart chex, and I am fine on that score.
But, I also take Lexapro10-20 mgs. and 40-80mgs dexedrine daily.
It's a -cocktail- that has taken me & the docs 5-8 yrs. to develop and, in concert, I need/like/appreciate all of them.
BTW~ I started at.5 clonazepam 5 yrs. ago, as my life became more complicated, I rose to 4 mgs. daily. Am now at 2--3 daily for past 2 yrs. And, it is still quite effective, and I will probably lower the dose again at some future date.
But, it DOES NOT sound like the anxiolytic for you! I myself despise Valium-causes depression/anger in me and Ativan "hits" me, then dissipates far too quickly.
We are all individuals. You may need some other benzo, who knows? We all have to keep on searching, and I know it is a paainful process.
But, hang in there & hope u feel better soon.xanablu
