I have changed a LOT of medications in the last month (I went off 6 meds cold turkey a month ago and since then have had 2 hospitalizations.), so I don't know WHAT is happening in my brain. But for the last week I haven't been sleeping well at all, even with the help of sleep meds. I just realized this problem started 3 or 4 days after I started taking a PM dose of Wellbutrin SR. For the past year I have been on Wellbutrin XL, one dose in the morning. In the hospital they changed it to SR for some reason and it is the first time I have had a dose before bed. My questions are:
-- If I try moving my PM dose back, how early should I take it to ensure a good night's sleep? I am starting a noontime dose, so maybe then?
-- Or should I bite the bullet and call my pdoc and ask about trying the XL version again? (she is new since yesterday. My last pdoc fired me when I went off my meds. I just don't want to appear to be hysterical. I guess I am right now, though.)

My pdoc has always prescribed Wellbutrin for me in the morning (I'm a total insomniac) but if the dose is too much for me I do have trouble sleeping. I've never taken the XL kind though, just regular and SR. If you can't sleep, you can't sleep so calling your Pdoc seems reasonable to me but I dunno. Maybe you could try taking it a few hours earlier and see if that helps at all? And then if it does maybe a few hours earlier again? I don't know if it looks bad to a pdoc if you switch the time of taking the med on your own. Maybe you could conveniently forget to take it at night so you have to take it in the morning.

What I've done this week is leave a message for my pdoc on Monday (she's out of the office in the middle of the week, so didn't call me back until Thursday), and I went ahead and changed my pm dose to noon, when I take another med. It worked instantly -- my sleep has been great. But when she called THursday, I told a little lie (the best of my options, I thought) and said I hadn't changed anything yet, what should I do? She said take it at 6 pm -- I need at least 5/6 hours between dosings. NOW I have to take pills 4 x a day. I have to start this 6 pm thing tonight; I hope I can sleep.
I think I'll probably ask to switch to one dose of Wellbutrin XL on my next dr.'s visit, but I'm worried it could throw me off. I've just got stabilized after 2 hospital visits and I need to start grad school classes in early september and start my kids' busy school schedule -- I need to be WITH IT.

...what I mean by that is, will a switch from SR 3x a day to one XL dose throw me for a loop???
