Just the opposite

Posted by willyee on July 3, 2005, at 21:08:01

I believe its linkadge who mentioned he felt the urge to just begin smoking.Well unfortunatly i do smoke, picked up the hiddeous habbit very young in high school.

I have a zillion reasons to quite, one being i workout, and yess im strong, but as far as cardio goes, forget it.You can imagine how embarrsing it is to look strong and help a friend move and be huffing and panting, yeah some healthy life style.

Second and more in touch with the group here, although i crave and become irratable when i want one,AFTER a cigarette i always feel horrable,my anxiety and depression are comtply agigtated.

Third and this could be my imagination, but i swear parnate seemed more effective when i first started it,which then i hardly smoked at all.I truly believe by knowing my body that smoking seems to kill parnates effects.

As a matter of fact,i react much worse to cigarettes since being on a Maoi then i did before medication at a younger age.

If i judged on personal exper id look into adding cigarettes as a no no with Parnate in the same way they are with wellbutrin.I of course cant use my single experieaces for such but i truly feel like wellbutrin cigarettes do not work with parnate and seems to make one sick if u do try it.

A question i have is this, are there any effective resources for stopping smoking that i CAN use being on a maoi,i have used the gum and the patch, both dident help.Im intersted in approacing my doc about an inhaler or i believe there is some sort of pill or something that starts with an L,a lunge or something.

Does anyone know if i could use this with a maoi,i TRULY TRULY want to STOP this disgusting habbit, its doing nothing but sending me to the bathroom if u know what i mean, and just making me feel nasty.I will though admit im defifntaly addicted and need help stopping. Please dont let my posts float by i cant on responses a lot here.Thank you.

I will keep that in mind. I probably won't start. Just looking for a pick-me-up from time to time.

That's interesting. I have found that smoking, rather than being a pick-me-up, actually seems to make me feel more depressed, not to mention lethargic, particularly in the morning. I have been smoking since junior high, with a couple of breaks. I started Wellbutrin about 4 weeks ago, and have only been at 200mg for a couple of weeks, but I have found my cravings for cigarettes have significantly lessened, and, when I do smoke, I don't feel particularly well. I have also noticed, even before the Wellbutrin, that that first smoke of the day seems to set in motion anxious and fearful thoughts. Strange. I am hoping that when I increase my dose of Wellbutrin to 300mg, I will be able to quit completely. I have also read that smoking can actually diminish blood levels of ADs, particularly, I think, TCAs.

Link, if you are looking for something to give you the type of energy, focus and motivation that coffee tends to give people, but minus the coffee jitters, perhaps you might do well on Yerba Mate. I recently bought some Yerba Mate tea, but haven't tried it yet. It is, apparently energizing and helps with focus, concentration and motivation, yet is supposed to be a smooth effect and not the jolt and drop that coffee often gives.

In Bolivia, and whoknows where else but surely not here, Mate contains coca leaf.

I thought it was "cool" to smoke. Even at an older age i had never liked it. Only smoked when I drank alchohol. Once I tried to smoke in the morning and I almost fainted. Had no trouble stopping. It made me anxious. Fondly, Phillipa
