lexapro and weight gain

Posted by emily31 on June 16, 2005, at 19:34:55

Hi. I am in need of some advice. I took paxil cr for a year for anxiety and OCD. I quite after a year and went through miserable withdrawel that I finally go over by taking a low dose of prozac. Too make a long story short, my anxiety and ocd are becoming unbearable again and my doctor suggested lexapro. Has anyone had any positive results from this drug.Did you gain weight, etc? I am afraid of the paxil side effects like weight gain and sexual side effects as well as the possible withdrawel symptoms. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

~~~I have, for anxiety and depression.
Can't help you out as far as it's effectiveness for OCD.
Did you gain weight, etc?
~~~Nope, not so far. My only side effect was an upramp of anxiety on startup. That was mild and passed quickly. I also expected that, as my anxiety issue makes med startups difficult.

sexual side effects as well

~~~Have not experienced those either.
I've been lucky and so far I sing it's praises as it's been good to me.
Good Luck to you.
Please do let me know how it goes for you. I am truthful when I tell you it's been a great med for me. I never thought I would do as well on it as I have. Like many others, I had gone through my trials and tribulations with AD's, but this one has been a winner.
Don't be shocked if the first few weeks are a bit rough on startup. Mine wasn't bad, but I "knew", surely, I had started it. It has been a smooth ride since.
I hope it works out for you.
Hi! I have been on Lex (10mg) for more than a year now, mostly for anxiety and mild depression. The first weeks were very rough, severe side effects including SEVERE anxiety. I took very low doses of Xanax (.25mg) as needed to cope. After 8 or 9 weeks I notice a significant improvement in my depression and anxiety. No weight gain. Moreover, when you feel better you eat more and gain a little weight. No sexual effects.
Let us now how you are doing, good luck...
