Hey everyone, it's my first time posting.
When I was younger(15-16) I decided to get help for my SEVERE ADD after failing many classes. I was prescribed Adderall and it worked perfectly, like a miracle.
When on Adderall, I felt my veins constrict and my heart pound harder. I read stories about people having heart attacks from long term use of ADD stimulants. I decided to stop taking Adderall. I barely got by in high school.
Now in my first year of college, I decided to get ADD help again. I thought Adderall would save me, but it didn't.
- Adderall gave me anxiety and helped barely with concentration. Adderall made me feel very confused with the anxiety. Just didn't work well at all, too weak. I tried many different doses of adderall.
- Focalin (d-methylphenidate) made me feel depressed and didn't help with concentration.
- Wellbutrin was too mild of a drug even at high doses.
- Strattera gave me hell. So many terrible side effects.
- Provigil did nothing...
-----------------------
I'm now aiming at Desoxyn and Dexedrine. I asked my doc about Desoxyn once and he just told me that it's not prescribed much and then changed the subject quickly.
My doctor is not a stimulant guy. He wants me to go on antidepressants. Only stimulants help with my ADD.
I heard that Desoxyn barely increases the heart rate, is smooth and stronger than adderall without anxiety.
I need your advice, which do you think is better for concentration, Desoxyn or Dexedrine?

>I am not sure about Desoxyn, but I have been taking Dexedrine 15 mg and it works great for me. I have ADD and my job has a high stress level and it helps me focus. there is some appetite suppression, but as long as you try to eat snacks throughout the day you should be ok. My pdoc was going to put me on Adderall, but because I lose weight so quickly (high metabolism) he decided to try Dex instead.
Let me know more about Desoxyn.
thanks,
Vivi

Well hello,
I used to ask about desoxyn on these boards all the time. I used to take dexedrine, 30mg.
Word of wisdom, do not mention desoxyn at all in the session, that makes them pulled back. What ever medication your taking, tell your doctor calmly, dont go balistic unless its an emergency, that only confuses. When i had horrible insomnia, i walked in there looking as if i was about to have a convulsion and repeated i havent got any sleep! i was wired with adrenaline and stress i for a while thought i lost reality. I really thought i had lost my mind. He changed my anti-anxiety to Ativan 1mg and Restoril 30mg. It helped in that situation.
Desoxyn is a hard form of amphetamine psychostimulants, yes that means its potent. I think you should go for Dexedrine first, if that doesnt work, calmly say its not working, do you know of any alternate treatment that would help?
Stimulants over time burn you out, burned me out for a while, i learned the lesson of take your meds as prescribed.
Good Luck
Matt

>Isn't Desoxyn like methamphetamine or something? If that's the case, yeah, I wouldn't expect your doctor to prescribe it...especially considering he's not big on stimulants. I've heard Dexedrine mentioned much more often than Desoxyn, in fact I've never really heard of people being on it. I would pursue the Dexedrine. I'm pretty sure the active ingredient in Dexedrine, dextroamphetamine I think, is also in Adderall in addition to amphetamine...it could be amphetamine that was causing your anxiety.

hello there, chemist here...desoxyn is not like methamphetamine: it is methamphetamine (the hydrochloride salt). i remain ignorant of any person i am acquainted with having been given a script for this medication. to the best of my knowledge, it is indicated in some cases for fighting narcolepsy or - and this may well be out of fashion - obesity. given the abuse potential, i would suspect that not many medical doctors are anxious to be liable for patient compliance and use of the drug....all the best, chemist

I didn't mean like, meaning similar. I don't why I put it there...sorry to confuse everybody who read that post. You know the way people are always saying like when they're talking to you and trying to make a point.

The bias against methamphetamine annoys me to no end. It is almost completely unjustified.
In fact, methamphetamine indeed should be the stimulant OF CHOICE. Why? It has the greatest ratio of central to peripheral effects. That is, for ecah unit of mental stimulantion, methamphetamine produces the least peripheral (cardiovascular effects, etc) effects. In sane doses such as those used for ADD, I do not think neurotoxicity would be much of a concern, though I'd welcome any evidence to the contrary.
The reason methamphetamine is so widely abused is because it has the highest therapeutic index! If one takes 5mg methamphetamine, they are quite awake. One can then ingest 50mg of methamphetamine and still not be uncomfortable. This is why, I imagine, people who use amphetamine for reasons other than simply to get a euphoria bordering on psychosis tend to prefer d-methamphetamine--least side effects!
A dose of caffeine let's say is 100mg. If one ingests that, there is a mild stimulant effect. What happens upon ingestion of 1000mg of caffeine? I'll meet you at the hospital ... ;)
The next best choice, as someone indicated, is d-amphetamine (Dexedrine). Stay away from the l- isomers unless you find that Adderall, etc. help you more (which you didn't).

Chairman MAO: Good points. I'm not entirely convinced that pharma-grade Desoxyn induces more psychological dependence than does Dexedrine or Adderall. Apples to apples, it may be better.
Thing is, people equate Desoxyn to street meth. Both contain methamphetamine, but comparing the two is apples to oranges. By and large, I don't think people taking Desoxyn according to doctor's orders exhibit the escalating drug-seeking, extreme stereotypy and demand for immediate reinforcement to the point of amphetamine psychosis. Tweakers do to a greater extent. Who knows why? Street speed is more convenient to inject or inhale, and you could be getting a little or a whole bunch in that little white line, along with other substances that might potentiate and/or adulterate its effects.

I have to believe that dose is key.
When I think back to a misspent youth in the nightclubs of London
I recall people using one or two grams in a night of dancing. Even assuming say 70% impurities we are talking about quantities 10x larger than the 30mg Adderall that some take. Of course this is blurring different amphetamines and different isomers but still a valid point. I imagine that my monthly dose would be used in an evening by some people I knew.

Having tried both, I much prefer the Desoxyn. The peripheral effects are hardly noticeable comapared to Dexedrine.

What dose do you take? was it difficult to get scripted?
I have heard it is the best med for ADD, brain vs body stimulation but that unfortunate compound name turns Docs off.

I would like to know if coming off it is smoother than Dexedrine. I crash pretty hard.

Ok here goes (sorry for being late, pharmacy NEVER EVER has desoxyn in stock):
Generic Dexedrine Spansules (barr labs):
Pros:
- MUCH more motivation increase than Desoxyn.
- Spansules last 10 hours.
- Generic Spansules have a smooth "come down" at the end of the day, unlike immediate release Dexedrine.
Cons:- Increased heart rate (darn)
- No hunger.
--------------------------------------------Desoxyn:
Pros:
- Wakes you the hell up!
- Strong stuff, Hits hard (good if you have MASSIVE tolerance to regular stimulants)
- VERY LITTLE increases in heart rate (nice!)Cons:
- No motivation increase.
- Only comes in immediate release, so it lasts only 4 hours per dose.
- At the end of day gives a bad "come down". (Nervousness, Anxiety, Depression, Crappy Feelings.)
- Totally NO hunger...anorexia in a pill (seriously).--------------------------------------
Dexedrine Spansules are totally better than Immediate Release Desoxyn hands down.

Thanks for sharing. I think I will ask my doctor if I can try the spansules as right now I used the tablets and I crash all the time.
I just don't know what the normal dosage is or what would be normal for me. How many mg of the spansules do you take?
Thanks,
Maxime

For those wanting to know how Vipe's experience on Desoxyn compared to Dexedrine, keep in mind that everyone responds differently.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Desoxyn Goes Cheap
The Trade Name "Desoxyn" was owned by Abbott labs, and recently sold to Ovation.
Some expected that Ovations form would be identical to Abbott's, BUT comparison of the PI sheets indicates different (cheaper) binding agents being used in the Ovation version. Some persons have reported the Ovation pill being nowhere near as effective and even being visibly lower quality. That is, it is visibly lose by comparison.
And, YES... cheaper binders can be bad! The cheaper form of Desoxyn may me more immediate in it's action, shorter-acting, and also more abrupt coming down.
This is the end of the thread.
