Ok - I just can't get off Wellbutrin - its the best AD I've had. I'm taking Trileptal for mood, but it interferes with my hormones, no matter how strong my hormones are.
Are there ANY other mood stabilizers out there that DON'T cause weight gain?!
I need the hormones because I am perimenopause and the hormones help even out my crazy moods.
Will throwing Buspar or Klonopin into the mix help a low does of Trileptal? I'm at my wits end. I do not want to take anything else that makes me fatter than I am.
Any suggestions?

How about Lamictal? It might have some slight weight gain for some people (I'm not sure), but I think it's generally weight neutral, and I don't believe that it affects hormones.
Plus it's supposed to be good as both a mood stabilizer and for depression.

Didn't you just post yesterday that you were getting off Wellbutrin cause it makes you a little manic? Why the sudden change back? As for the mood stabilizers, what else have you tried? (I can't remember if we've communicated before, and I'd hate to recommend something you've already tried.)

Trileptal is supposed to be wt neutral. When I took a small dose I didn't gain wt. Fondly, Phillipa

> Any suggestions?I'm not sure how severe your mood fluctuations are, but you could try Lithium or Depakote in a low dose. These tend to lead to weight gain only at the higher end of the dosing spectrum. I had no weight/appetite problems with Lithium in doses up to 900 mg, and with Depakote up to 500 mg.

Sorry Trish. I pulled a Phillipa. :-) I just saw in another thread that topomax gave you bladder problems.
Maybe you could list what you have you tried and your reaction to each.

What haven't I tried!
Lamectil - made my mouth feel strange - like blisters, felt like my teeth were going to fall out.
Topamax - great stuff, but made my bladder raw, gave me something call I.C. - not the usual bladder infection - really bad stuff on my bladder.
Trileptal - messes up my hormones bad. Not sure if it is really doing anything.
Abilify - made me mean and cranky.
Wellbutrin - great AD - makes me hyper sometimes. Doesn't help with my bad PMS.
Zoloft - ok - makes me anxious, eat like a pig.
Prozac - good, but sexual problems.
Effexor - constipated.
Celexa - great - didn't care about anything. Gained 35 pounds.
Lexapro - didn't really notice much difference from Celexa.
Everything except Wellbutrin has given me sexual problems.
Bascially, I need a good AD (Wellbutrin) and something for the bad PMS and anxietys.

Are you trying to replace the Wellbutrin or the Trileptal? or both?
How about Cymbalta?
Or, like someone else said, lithium or Depakote? They are both known for weight gain, but don't interfere with hormones, and if you take a low enough dose you probably won't gain weight.
Or a low dose of an antipsychotic like Seroquel or Zyprexa.

just wanted to say that zyprexa and depokote caused me weight gain. I cant rem. how many mil. i was on, but i know i gained about 29 lbs over a period and stopped taking it, plus it messed up my hormones (irregular periods) etc. Anyway, I havent noticed much (if at all) weight gain with lamictal or trileptal (so far)...
