Hi Everyone,
I started lithium (300mg) 5 days ago and dropped that Paxil (10mg) I had been taking for a month 2 days ago. I was feeling "fine" before I dropped the Paxil, but ever since I dropped it, I've been very dizzy and nauseated and have no energy. I remember when I was VERY dizzy for 3-4 days after dropping Effexor (only was on it 2 weeks), but the dizziness totally went away.
Last year, all I had to do was take Paxil, wait 3 weeks, and get on with my life, but, after I relapsed, finding the right drug has become more complicated!
I'm now on Lamictal (25mg) and Lithium (300mg). Yes, Lithium has helped calm me down, but, ummm, a little TOO MUCH. This lethargic feeling sucks!
Is it common to feel like this when starting Lithium?? Will it go away?? My doctor wanted me to drop the Paxil, but I don't know if that was the greatest idea now. It's cornering 4 months since I started feeling like a slug and I'm wondering why nothing's "clicked" yet. I still remember how it feels to feel good and be happy enough to party with friends, it's just frustrating that I can't seem to get that carefree feeling back.
Thanks for listening!

Hi,

Sounds like typical withdrawal symptoms to me, perhaps you needed to taper the Paxil more slowly.
Unfortuately, Li does sometimes make people feel like a slug, have you had your blood level measured yet? What was it? Are you taking Li carbonate?

I dropped Lithium Carbonate today (300mg). My doctor wants me to stay on Lamictal (25mg) and add Prozac (10mg).
The 4 days on lithium, I was lethargic, slow, no coordination, and felt like I had the flu. Lithium is too serious of a drug for me, I think. ughhh...awful drug.
So, for the moment, it's Lamictal (25) and Prozac (10). Prozac, Celexa, and Lexapro are the only SSRI's I haven't tried and Prozac has done wonders for three family members so we're going there first. I still feel really dizzy, lightheaded, but I'm sure it will go away in a few days. It's either the Lithium or the withdrawel from Paxil (or both) that are causing this.

I'm off Lithium and getting on Prozac. If you don't see me posting that much, don't worry, I'm just trying to take a little break from Babble. I think I'm addicted! haha I have so much stuff to get done before summer and have to get a move on.....even if I'm not feeling "great."
Yea....lithium knocked me out and was awful. It's a serious drug, despite what everyone says.
This is the end of the thread.
