Folks,
I've having a hard time concentrating lately ... the only difference is that I've been out drinking lately, enjoying my social life. But the price seems to be hindering of my cognitive functions, especially when it comes to concentrating on a task and organizing thoughts, a plan, for example. Is this the alcohol? This /fast/!?
I am also taking Celexa and Lamictal. Might the alcohol be interfering with this? Are these cognitive effects very pronounced? My friends can drink no problem, and work in highly analytical fields. When I drink, I feel like I just decreased my technical IQ by several points.
Mania? Racing thoughts? Real damage?
Dammit -- frustrating!

Let me add to this memory problems. Are you telling me a few nights out, intoxicated, for sure, but not blacking out, would wipe out memories or slow down recall exceptionally? Or does this sound like an exception to the rule?

I don't know how alchol reacts with what you're taking, but it's a powerful drug. I wouldn't mess with it. Has your pdoc said you could drink on these meds? Fondly, Phillipa

Hi AMD,
Racing thoughts are often a symptom of anxiety, if you find any others just treat anxiety, you will be free of racing thoughts. Are you agitated? You may try to replace Celexa by less serotonergic drug. Maybe some TCA (desipramine, imipramine, reboxetine)

Are you feeling anxious or nervous energy as well as racing thoughts?
Celexa (which is LExapro's twin) could possibly do that if you don't respond well to things that mess with your seratonin (like me!). When I was on Lexapro, I had horrific racing thoughts and my depression worsened.
Also, what is your Lamictal dose and how long have you been on it?
This is the end of the thread.
