Chris O- Seroquel/panic attack

Posted by Spriggy on April 4, 2005, at 13:37:52

Hey- you don't have babblemail but I need to ask you a question..

when you stated above about your panic attack and ER experience (which by the way, I shared with my husband and we both enjoyed it- he even said, "sounds like something you would do." ha),
you mentioned you had taken a Seroquel an hour before.

Do you think the Seroquel triggered your panic attack?

I am concerned becuase my doctor has given me Seroquel to take (if I desire to) and I have been too scared to take it. I had just about made my mind up to take it until I read your post. Now I'm worried it will give me a panic attack.

Anyway, do you think there some correlation?

Just fyi, I also had a panic attack the first day I went on Seroquel (MUCH lower dose than I am on now). My take on it is that I was freaked out about taking it and the dose was not high enough. SO I had panic attack due to fear of taking it, not from actually having the drug in my system! Now i love it, as you probably ahve figured out by my babble responses to seroquel starters :)

Also, there is an interesting website by someone with BP (it is NOT sponsored by a doctor of any sort) that I found useful. A user review of sorts on Seroquel is on the website. It is www.crazymeds.org/seroquel.html

Again, this is not a website by doctors.
But interesting and useful.

Yes, see I do believe I create the anxiety in my head out of FEAR of what the medicine MIGHT do. Thus having the attack right after swallowing the first pill; which is likely psychosomatic.
I think that's what I did the first time I took Ativan (I had a huge panic attack after taking it).

I may end up taking it at my doctor office the firs time so if I wig out, he can help me.

Yeah.. it's pretty pathetic.

You're not pathetic unless ALL of us are pathetic. We're not :) Also, fyi, seroquel has a short half-life (approx. 6hrs) so it is out of your system pretty quickly - ie 25mgs are reduced to 12.5mg in your system 6 hours after taking it.

Not sure if that will make you feel better, but I thought it might.

You guys stick with it. I've been on 50mgs a night for a month and the hungover feeling the next day went away for me in 4-5 days. I'm still sleeping too much also, but I see my doc this Friday and suspect we will raise dose so the sedation may me lessened when I report in next time.
