What meds or you on, what for, and do they work?

Posted by BRC on March 26, 2005, at 16:36:12

Hi,

Just wondering what meds other people take and for what conditions and if they help.

I seem to think that I take alot of meds and that kind of bothers me. So, I was just trying to get a sense of what other peoplel are taking.

I take: 60mg Lexapro
1,200mg Trileptal
4mg Klomipin
30mg Remeron

Thanks,

BRC

Hi BRC!

>I seem to think that I take alot of meds and that kind of bothers me.

Why does it bother you, are you having side effects?

>I take: 60mg Lexapro
>1,200mg Trileptal
>4mg Klomipin

None of these doses are high except the Lexapro. High doses of Lex are sometimes used to treat OCD.

Regards,
Ed.

I'm on l5mg a day total of valium. 25mg of zoloft, and 7.5mg of remeron. I'm about to cut out the remeron as it doesn't seem to be doing anything for me except make me fat. But, we are all unique and we all have different needs. If what you are taking works then by all means don't give it a second thought and continue. As my pdoc said yesterday" Take what works for you". Fondly, Phillipa

I just take 15 mg. of Lexapro a day. Is this a low dose? I went to this from 40 mg. Celexa. I've heard very mixed opinions about this drug (Lexapro). As for now, though, it seems to be working really well. It took me a couple of days to adjust (I had the brain zaps, etc.), but now I'm fine. How does 60 mg. make you feel? Do you have much motivation, or do you notice a definite decrease in sex drive? I'm still trying to tweak my dosage.

I take 250 mgs luvox and 2 mgs klonopin daily. I have GAD, SAD, and OCD---these meds together work quite well for my anxiety.

Here is my daily regime:

6 mg's of Lamictal (slowly titrating up!) for Bipolar 2. I think my doctor wants me eventually up to 75 mg's or 100 mg. We shall see.

Klonopin: .12 ( I am weaning off because I think it was making me worse; depression and anxiety).

Restoril: 30 mg's for sleep

I have Seroquel on hand "if necessary" or if I decide to try it via samples from my doctor. I haven't gotten bad enough yet to try it.

Other than that, I take a multivitamin, Omega 3's and B complex.

Hi,

Thanks Ed for your comments. I didn't know if these meds were to much or not enough. B/C I still don't feel just right.

My pdoc say that I can go up on my Trileptal, but I haven't. Think it would be ok to go to his reccommended dose of 1,800mg.

You see I have never drank nor done drugs. And these meds make me feel funny and that feeling makes my anxiety even higher. But I have been on them so long I can't go wihtout taking them or I REALLY feel bad.

What your opinion on the situation?

BRC

I have a pretty bad case of OCD so SSRI's are needed in higher doses to treat that. At 60mg I think it makes me pretty wired instead of lethargic.

Hi BRC!

>B/C I still don't feel just right.

In what way? What symptoms do you have at the moment?

>Think it would be ok to go to his reccommended dose of 1,800mg. (Trileptal)

Yes, you could try a higher dose so long as you're not having any major side effects from Trileptal at the moment. Some people take up to 2400mg/day.

>60mg Lexapro

Do you feel better on 60mg than when you were on a lower dose?

Kind regards,
Ed.

Hi,

I was dx with borderline personality disorder. This includes moderate depression, extreme anxiety, social phobia w/panic episodes, anger discontrol, history of bulimia and binge eating disorders, besides PMS. I've been on SSRI's for the most part since March 2000. They either caused agitation/anxiety when dosage increased (Zoloft), or pooped out after several months.

I recently discontinued 10mg Lexapro in mid-Feb, but irritability and crying bouts returned after a month and a half. Started taking leftover Wellbutrin SR 100mg once daily, but this didn't do much for irritability. It caused slight anxiety and insomnia-panic feeling in middle of night. Then started taking it every other day and two days ago took 5mg Lexapro (split dose a.m. and p.m.) and back to feeling normal and calm by late evening. Two days later and I'm feeling calm and normal. I plan to take Lexapro 5mg every other day since it has a long half-life in body, roughly 27 hours.

I stopped taking Lexapro in Feb. because it was no longer affordable for our tight budget and because I was getting depressed. I wanted to see how I'd do without meds. for previous attmepts failed after just a couple weeks. One and a half months in the longest I'd been off of ADs since 2000. We are going through some major situational stressors, but I'd say that all in all, Lex just wasn't working as well as when I began taking it in Jan. of last year (for the second go). I find it not as strong in anti-depression action as 10mg or 20mg Celexa. Maybe this was because Celexa was a bit less sedating for me. With the addition of Wellbutrin, I get the stimulating effect that boosts my mood and gets rid of some of the brain fog from Lexapro. I'm back to sleeping well-Lexapro being the only AD that helps me sleep soundly. I plan on taking bupropion every other day as well to keep costs down. We'll see how long this lasts and if hubby will grin and bare it with the cost. He's very skeptical of "brain candy" and thinks I am a "normal female". I've switched from Wellbutrin SR 100mg to generic bupropion ER 100mg. The only difference I've noticed is that the tablets have no sulphur smell as the name brand ones do. Oh, thought I'd add that I can't afford a psych doc, (the one I had was not very helpful), but get my prescriptions yearly through my Gyn.

You're on several meds. and the Lexapro dose is high, but some people do well at higher doses. Are you taking some of these meds. to counter side effects from other meds?
