I've tried 600mg of Trileptal, which messed up my periods. I could drop down to 450mg. a day without it effecting my hormones. Then my Pdoc suggested taking 160mg/day of Geodon. All I could handle was 80mg - which she wanted me to take at night. Would it be better to take 40mg/day and 40mg/night?
I am currently taking Wellbutrin XL and love it but I can't sleep at night so I take Trazodone.
My question is - which mood stabilizer should I take - Geodon or Trileptal? I'm afraid of having a seizure with the Geodon/Wellbutrin combo, but my Pdoc says if I've never had one don't worry about it. Am I being silly to worry?
Also - I'm afraid to have a margarita with the Wellbutrin/Geodon - afraid of seizure!
Help. Any suggestions/advice?

I used to take Wellbutrin and never had a seizure problem. My daughter takes it as well right now, as well as Topamax for mood stabilization. She hasn't had any trouble at all. You should be honest with your doctor, and express your concerns. She should be able to talk openly with you, and there is always the chance that sometime you may want to try a different mood stabilizer anyway. My daughter tried a couple and went back to topamax. I have been down that "worry road" and it's easier to make that call to the pdoc, and ask the questions. As for the stablizers you have taken, I am only familiar with Trileptal. I have heard great things about it, and I am thinking that 600mg is pretty high? My daughter tried it, but at a MUCH lower dosage. -L

Have you tried the first line MSs or did you want to skip all the SEs involved? Despite the high maintanence, I am glad that I went back and tried Lithium. It's realy worked for me.

Thank you all so much for the great info. As for the question about first line stabilizers - I am already overweight and working to lose, so I have avoided things like Lithium.
