I’ve mooted this idea before in Babbleland but I’m going to do it again, because I’m more serious about it this time!I don’t mean to be too critical of UK docs, I’m sure there are some great ones here, but it’s certainly difficult to find them.
The main problems I have with the UK are firstly that doctors will not prescribe stimulants unless your very ADHD, and secondly that no one seems to have an idea of how to treat Social Anxiety.
I am possibly mildly ADD, and just need an occasional stimulant to help me with concentration/motivation.
A previous UK doc prescribed me Dexedrine which worked well, and I didn’t abuse, but he retired.Has anyone had any experience of going abroad for treatment?
Someone called Glenn responded to my previous post, but stupidly I didn’t try and contact him.
Any advice appreciated
PS
I would also like to know of any UK docs who are any good!

> Has anyone had any experience of going abroad for treatment? If you do come to the US, I'd be sure to have a doctor picked out and vetted ahead of time. Psychiatrists dont necessarily take a more liberal approach to meds here - some do, many don't. Also, be prepared to pay. Depending on the particular doctor and the location, you will almost certainly pay a minimum of $100 per session and more likely closer to $200, and that's for only 20 minutes to a half hour. For an evaluative session, be prepared to pay anywhere from $300 to $600 - considerably more if it involves any kind of neurological testing.
My understanding, based, I'll admit, on not a lot of evidence, is that French psychiatrists are significantly more open to a broad spectrum of meds than those in other countries. Have you considered just hopping the Channel? Even if you don't speak French, there has to be quite a number of doctors in France who speak English.
Whichever route you take, good luck.

I used to have this image of France a Never Land of wonderful drugs and doctors.I'm not to sure now though, apparently Frances medical system is even less democratic than the UK (!)
I've heard that French doctors are almost as reluctant to prescribe stims as English docs.
My main reservation is that I've never heard of anyone traveling to France for treatment, were as I have heard of people traveling to the US
This is the end of the thread.
