New moon?

Posted by Maxime on March 6, 2005, at 23:43:47

Okay, I am experiencing hypomania. Unfortunately the depression remains. But I have racing thought, irritability and I don't think I am going to sleep tonight.

Usually this happens 3 days before the FULL MOON. So I looked at the calendar and noticed it is three days before the NEW MOON.

Has anyone with BP experienced this? I can't handle this. I feel like I can write a novel right now and compose several symphonies. I am losing my mind ...
Damn. Damn. Damn. Guess it's time for the Thorazine. Yay (not). Puffy hands and feet and swollen breasts after only one dosage. Although I know it will stop the hypomania from escalating.

This wouldn't be so bad if the depression would go away. Mixed states. How I can I be crying so hard and be so agitated at the same time. I don't understand it. I want the chemical warfare in my head to stop now. Please ....

Hi Maxime :-)

This could be a good time to try a small dose of chlorpromazine. You could try 12.5mg.

All the best,
Ed.

My cycling tends to run about every three weeks or so, give or take, so I run into a full moon or new moon hypomania every few months. I've been having trouble with this the last few days as well, but instead of euphoria OR dysphoria it is a rather intense scatterbrained ADHD thing accompanied with a lot of psychomotor agitation. I would also suggest trying to channel your energy into *one* project if possible so it will distract you from the five radios on all at once feeling. The last two days I've woken up with music in my head that's a combination of differing elements of two or three different songs, and it doesn't quit until I have had a lot of coffee (for some reason). Instead of thorazine, you might look into one big charge of Depakote every now and then (say 1000mg). I know it is a weight gainer, but... it works pretty quick. I've had to double-up the last couple of days. Another thing for mixed stuff.. this is really anecdotal, but I've got immediate release verapamil tabs and have found that if I take 1/2 to 1 tablet (20-40mg) that it can clear it out-the feeling was kind of like a defroster taking away the fog on car windows-really weird. I'd take one more often, but it makes me dizzy, and it has some weird cardio effects-my heart rate slows and gets stronger, rather noticeable, but I've never fainted or anything on it.

You are right about trying to channel into one thing but it's so hard. I took Thorazine and it has slowed things down for me. I have never taken verapamil but with the side-effects you describe it would not be a good med for me to try. I have gone into cardiac arrest three times in my life from my anorexia (I was inpatient at the time) and so there are certain meds that my pdoc will not let me try. With good reason of course.

I don't know why I am still alive really.

I noticed you were Posting a lot last night and was afraid you were cycling. I even mentioned it to my husband. Your focus seems to be writing poetry and using this Board. Keep on doing this it seems to help you. And you are full of wisdom. Fondly, Phillipa

Wisdom? I am not so sure about that. Anyhow, the Thorazine brought me back from the whirlwind of posts and noises in my head. I wouldn't mind it so much if the depression would lift, but it stays and then the hypomania is an added layer to deal with.

I have had a rough day. I went to a support group tonight and I actually felt worse afterwards. I don't think it is suppose to work that way. I was crying on the bus all the way home. No one notices. It's okay. I ended up doing some SI tonight. Never a good sign. I am riddled with thoughts of dying and how I might achieve it. But there really is no right time is there? I mean it would be such an inconvenience for everyone. I should at least file my taxes first. And I would like to be much thinner.

Sometimes I feel so suicidal. Other times I feel as though I am just going to die. Perhaps in my sleep. I don't know why I think this. There is nothing that would cause a sudden death that I am aware of. But I just have this feeling ... or maybe it is more of a wish. There is no voice or anything telling me that it is going to happen. It's just a feeling ... I don't understand.

Hi Ed, given how fast I was cycling I took 25 mg. It brought me out of that space. I just woke up with my puffy feet and hands, which is something I can live with. But if I were to take it 2-3 more night at that dosage, I would begin to lactate.

Hi Maxime,

Do you have chlorpromazine liquid in Canada? You could use it to measure out low doses.

>But if I were to take it 2-3 more night at that dosage, I would begin to lactate.

Do you respond as well to any other APs? Did they also make you lactate?

Ed.

They all make me lactate. I have a naturally high prolactin level. Actually I just checked and I can get the 10 mg tablets. I will ask my pdoc for them.

Hi,

Good idea! Btw, chlorpromazine syrup apparantly doesn't taste very nice, I once talked to a retired psych nurse who worked in the 1960s. She said everyone hated the taste of Largactil syrup and they used to spit it out. Maybe it ws the effects of Largactil that they didn't like though, a lot were on really high doses!

True! They used to dope people up on 1000 mg of the stuff. Yikes!
