Anybody have a success story to share about combining Lamictal with Cymbalta?

I'm in the midst of possibly being Dxed with BP II. See my pdoc tomorrow.
Cymbalta + Wellbutrin and then Effexor + Lamictal were NOT good for me.

Hmm--why two ADs together? That seems like a bad idea to me. What was the pdoc thinking there?I was not successful with Lamictal-plus-an-AD until I went back on Prozac after a ten year "hiatus". The current combination is as good as I've felt in my whole life. I was on almost every other AD you can name, either alone or in combination with Lamictal.
Unfortunately, the Prozac has destroyed my sleep--I now experience very little REM sleep and nothing deeper than Stage 2--so I have to shop around again. I can barely keep my eyes open on most days--no way to live! Here I thought I had it licked. :-(

Well shoebox, if it's any correlation, the most imfamous pdoc in our state (well known for his intelligence) told me (which it is also now thought I have bp 2) that he would suggest CYmbalta as an AD for bp 2's before any other AD.
He also mentioned Lamictal to me. Unfortunately, my regular doctor thinks Lamictal is from the devil (freaked out about the "RASH" and shutters at the thought of writing a prescription for it), so I have to just go on Depakote.
BUT, if I had a say in the matter and had to chose, I would take my bet on Cymbalta with Lamictal.
But who am I? ROFL
I just got out of the psych ward. LOL

Here's a link to an article which has an overly simplistic explanation of why combining ADs can be good:

i take 90mg cymbalta and 100mg lamictal and have had pretty good success with the combo. It took a long time for the cymbalta to work but now it keeps the black hole at bay and curbs my irritability. i take ambien at night so i can't say whether it would keep me up otherwise.

I have been on the Cymbalta + Lamictal combo for about 6 months, before than i took Lexapro and Lamictal. I highly recommend the cymbalta and lamictal, I feel better now than I have in a very long time, I am also BPII. I do take Restoril for sleep though, but not all the time just from time to time when I cant sleep. Before I got on this combo and got it worked out just right I could never sleep and had to take the sleeping pills daily, but not so anymore. I hope it is as helpful a combo to you as it has been to me. Also as stated by someone above, Cymbalta takes a while to start working, like 8 - 10 weeks, possibly even a little longer, but I think its worth the wait if you can hang in until you get there.

Thanks for the info, guys. Very encouraging! Think I'll see if pdoc can fit me in (next appt is still a month away).
On a different note, people seem to have misgivings about Cymbalta, and when I ask why, they can't seem to come up with a logical reason. "Just a hunch," they'll usually say. Could it be because the name sounds vaguely radioactive?? :-)
Thanks again!
