Kind of a long story, but basically I am having some serious cognitive dulling. I can no longer remember anything, and although I know something it just doesn't seem to click in my head. I'm not to the point of not being able to function, but it seems to be rapidly advancing. I also feel the same way I did last year before I received treatment for my Bipolar, rapid cycling disorder, like I am not living my life, but rather watching myself live, very distant and muted from what is going on around me. Also, most disturbingly, I think I had a full out hallucination the other day. I went into the office and clearly recall filling out these three pieces of paperwork fully to put on my boss' desk for review. I remember looking up the information for them, filling them out, and looking at them before I turned them and seeing that the thirty or so blanks on each one were all complete. I received a call this morning that the paperwork I turned in was terribly unfinished and I needed to redo it. When I went into the office I saw that the papers were practically blank. I would never have turned them into my boss like that if I had seen them that way! I clearly recalled seeing them completed. When I redid them to turn them in again I actually remembered some of the data from where I had looked it up before and "written it down", when clearly I hadn't. This disturbs me greatly. I have had a pretty nasty sinus infection and two weeks ago I had the intestinal flu but I didn't think I was sick enough to have a serious hallucination. I also have lupus, which sometimes causes psychosis, and thyroid disease. What my question is, however, is whether or not it could be my meds. I take 200 mg of topomax (been on it for about 8 months with no problems, been a lifesaver), .5mg of klonipin, 50mg of trazodone, .75 mg of risperdal, 100 mg of plaquenil, and 60mg of armour thyroid. All of these meds have been in place for a very long time, the shortest is 8 months, with the only change being that I started taking them all at night instead of splitting them up half in the AM and half PM. Please help me determine whether I'm truly losing it.

Hi:
sounds to me like your Bipolar is psychotic feature that might fall into Bp I classification, not Bp II that has mostly depressive episodes with less manic sides. In my guess, ... except Trazodone and Kolonopin, you need to take 'split-dosage,' one for morning and another for before bed. Particualrly, Risperal, because this med. has a good reputation for Bp I with psychotic, like yours. Also, some of Bp I taking, actually the Rispderal even during the day when you feel 'manic,' 'dysphoric,' and also all other manic problems.
Just my suggestion.

You have a lot of medical problems as well. Could this have been related to the lupus? Fondly, Phillipa

Yes you are losing it and it's the Topomax. I went psychotic on it. Hallucinations ...the works ... ended up in the hospital. At first I lost my vocabulary and slowly I became very paranoid and then started hallucinating (visual) it was very scary.
Talk to you doctor and see if you taper down and off the med. Take of yourself. I know what you are going through.

Ok. I may be crazy too, but I took risperdal many years ago and also had a lot of holucinations. I stoped it in 2 weeks and switched to zyprexa, which was and is still a life saver. Thoughts a very clear, actualy made me work better than ever in work and school. I've taken it for about 7 years now and strongly suggest it to you. I never holucinated on this med.
