has anyone experienced negative psychological effects from using hormone replacement therapy? I tried a natural estrogen/progesterone combo and in less than a week was feeling very strange. I am not sure if it was interacting with my meds or if it was just the impact on me but it was frightening. Although I was aware of things around me, I was withdrawing more and more into myself and could not communicate. My thinking was foggy and confused.
ANY IDEAS ABOUT THIS?

hoo boy do I have an opinion on this!! Last August I stopped taking my hrt (in the form of birth control) because of the migraine headaches it caused. Within a week my depression swooped to a new low. My antidepressant then stopped working, my anxiety and panic attacks increased 2-fold, and according to my p-doc and gyno, all this could be due to the hrt and my "self management" of it. It took 2 months to straighten it out.
I asked my p-doc what women did before treatment for menopause and she replied, "divorce and murder"!!!

Thanks for the input. You know, I had been expecting the hrt to have a more possitive effect as you described, I had even thought that it might allow me to reduce my meds. Why then (ANYBODY) did I feel worse?

Hi, I used HRT also. I couldn't tolerate the synthetic pills. My OBGYN Rx'd natural compounded tx available only by one pharmacy. No side effects, but I don't think it helped. I'lm off it now and still feel the same. Phillipa

Hi,thanks for responding, my last try was a natural compound made in the pharmacy also. Its, at the very least, interesting how much impact that these hormones have on our psyche. I don't know if adjusting my meds would reduce the weird effect of the hrt or not, but then I tell myself that I'm not certain of the long term impact the hormones might have elsewhere. Afterall, menopause is not a disease, it is a condition. I just feel that if I could sort it all out, I could improve my treatment overall.
This is the end of the thread.
