I have been on SSRI for a better part of two years and tried most of them however when I was confronted with a anxious moment I felt uncomfortable.
When I went to see my pdc for my refill for concerta as i have ADHD as asked him that I do not think the SSRI are working. So he gave me valium to use when I need to.I took it when I had my first date and now I have a girlfriend. The SSRI never gave me that affect.
Maybe my problem was no so much depression but anxiety.I do not think the amphatamines make me anxious since I have been on them for a year and on the SSRI for 2 years. One odd thing here in Australia most doctors prescribe valium and reluctant to give me Xanax.I prefer the Xanax because it leave my system in 8 hrs instead of few days with valium.I am worried if I took them every day toxitity will build up.Don't Dr know this.Mum takes Activan which I think is another good benzo but I think its effectiveness has worn of from mum because she refuses to increase the dosage eventhough she has been on 1mg for years

After being on most of the SSRI's, SNRI's, and having experienced all the benzos, I would have to say that the antidepressants did nothing for anxiety but benzos did. I have an appointment with pdoc tomorrow and am trying to get up the courage to ask if I can try it again because I had good results from it a while ago while not on antidepressants. I almost think they cause depression. I am currently taking l.5mg of klonopin a day but think it depresses me. If you take xanax, it can give you rebound anxiety because of the short half-life. Valium has a long one but I don't think it builds up in your system. It's been around a long time.

Meant to say also that Valium worked really well for me in the past and did not cause any toxic build-up. Sorry I erased this part when I was submitting last post some how. Phillipa

Valium and most benzos work BEST for anxiety. I am not one to say much on SSRI'S but they were never really marketed for anxiety till the last couple of years....I see a lot of people on them who need a benzo so? ya know

went to doctor yesterday to get xanax,to see the difference between valium and it felt i was asking for heroin or something.he prescribed valium again but that is not before he was pushing the ssri for hours it seems.when i mentioned maoi are better for anxiety than ssri he practically through me out of his office.
i could not help noticing his stationary though which had the effexor emblem and sample packets of effexor xr. i also noticed good old viagra samples too i was expecting him to give me a few as off label for anxiety.god bless marketing and damn treating patients with the appropriate medication.

Hi,
Come to England. Diazepam (Valium) is by far the most widely prescribed anxiolytic benzo here. Prescribing other benzos such as lorazepam is frowned upon. My pdoc refuses to prescribe any other benzos apart from diazepam.

It is a pity to see doctors "brainwashed" in this sort of way,and withhold a medication which benefited a person because of a propaganda or a stigma...I wonder how the companies that make Lorazepam are doing in the UK ?As for you Ed,you know I tried both diazepam and lorazepam and had the same experience as you and wish if I could be of any help....
Best regards,
Dark Horse.
