I was off Valium for 2 months, tremors, agoraphobia, etc. were too much so I re-instated to about my previous stable dose, 25 mgs. My resting heart rate is now near 90 bpm when before, during my period off the drug,it was in the lower to mid 60s. And theory as to why? This makes no sense to me with a sedative. Blood pressure is fine.

This happens to me also .. its really weird .. maybe go to the doctors tell them whats going on.. maybe u need something else?

I feel slightly better. Vision has cleared up. Still have vibration and agoraphobia when slightly nervous, though this may be slightly better. The meds did temporariliy make me sleepy. But this increased pulse concerns me. Makes me think my body is rebelling against the ingestion of these meds. Any ideas as to what may be causing the more rapid pulse would be appreciated. Before benzos decreased my pulse and created full relaxation.

Paul the only person who can tell you this is a qualified doctor or physc .. i asked my doctor about this cus its been happening to me and he just said dont take no more ...
have you tryed a beta blocka ?

have you tryed a beta blocka ?Well we all know that insights on this board are not to be taken as law, is in the disclaimer. But I would still be interested in hearing some theories. Doctors half the time do not know any more about these drugs than what the drug companies tell them, which is very little and schrewded toward financial interests. Yes I have tried a beta blocker. It keeps the heart rate and bp in check but does nothing for dry mouth, tight throat, and tremors, among other symptoms. I am just trying to get back to work. It is necessary.

Hi Paul,
Diazepam sometimes causes 'reflex tachycardia'. This is when the heart rate increases in response to a drug-induced fall in blood pressure. This is particularly common when a benzodiazepine is used for IV sedation before an uncomfortable medical procedure. I would imagine that this could also occur when a benzo is taken by mouth. Although your heart rate has increased, it is not abnormally fast. I would mention it to your doctor when you next go (if it hasn't cleared up by then).
I'm glad to hear that some of your other symptoms have improved. You will probably experience a big improvement over the next few weeks as the diazepam (and its active metabolites) accumulate in your body. I don't think that you are 'fighting' the diazepam. I think that your pulse rate will most likely slow down over the next few weeks.

PS. The drowsiness might get worse over the next few days but will probably have decreased in a few weeks time.

Thanks Ed. My doc does not know much about this. He wants me on Zoloft. Got a starter kit in the drawer. But I have tried Lexapro and Trazadone. Niether helped. Both made me worse.

You sound so much like me... have you tryed remeron? (zispin) ? thats the only med that i ever felt relaxed to take and didnt make me worse.. the rest did.. keep me posted plse... we sound simular..

Yes we are, and I will definitely keep you posted. I really like this board. Honestly, I`d like to CBT my way out of this if possible. Benzos work for me to a real degree but am scared I will get in tolerance trouble again. And for some like me it is a real chore getting off them. I am considering a small dose Paxil, Inderal combo. I take Lopressor as needed now. Beta blockers are great for heart symptoms, taken as needed or daily.I was going to re-instate Valium. Did for a day but got cold feet.
