maybe it's just flu??

I take my effexor in the morning. my doc says it might disturb sleep otherwise.

it did give me mild headaches at first, but they went away pretty soon.

I was on Effexor at one point and tried to quit it cold-turkey and felt what you're feeling. I took mine in the morning and if I skipped a dose or didn't take it at about the same time each day, I felt horrible. Are you taking it with food? I was incredibly nauseous if I took it on an empty stomach. Possibly the problem? It's day four, too. I'm sure it will level off as soon as your body figures out what to do with it. Hang in there, kiddo.

I think its time to increase the dose. Too low of a dose with some medicines actually made me feel worse. I wrote you a message in one of your threads above a few days ago. Did you read it?

First of all, take the Effexor at the same time every day, with some food early in the morning. Otherwise, it will disturb your sleep, and an empty stomach will just add to the nausea.

Secondly, up the dose. Aside from Tom's very good advice about too low a dose creating problems, most pills are not made to be split, so you don't get the same amount in each half if you do split them: the latest study on this showed that the variance is pretty significant. Splitting pills can result in taking anywhere from 50% to 150% of what you think you're getting. You know -- and Donna, you really do know this -- that 37.5 mg is going to be safe for you, because you've taken it before. You just need to get through your anxiety. So, sit yourself down for a talk, and tell yourself not to be silly about this, and take the full 37.5 tablet. It will be much better for you.

As for your flu like symptoms, if you were having them before starting the Effexor, then they're unlikely to be related to the Effexor. As far as I know, there are no drugs out there -- yet -- that can cause side effects BEFORE you take them. It might be that you're depressed, so your body feels crummy, but it's more likely -- especially living with a five year old -- that you have a little bug. Maybe a cold, maybe a little flu. Whatever it is, hot tea with honey, take it a little easy, and you'll feel better in a week.

So, on day five you'll take the whole 37.5mg, right? You'll tell yourself to stop being silly when you panic over things you know are not real, right? C'mon, Donna. You can do this -- you've done it before, and you're certainly capable of doing it now.

Just make sure you increase your dosage at a VERY slow increments. Whatever your doc says take twice as long.

When I started effexor icouldn't sleep at all i was so wound up.
I take trazodone at night to sleep. Its a great med, usualy prescribed to combat AD insomnia.

Are you taking anything for sleep? If not try Trazodone.
Good Luck,
Adam
