Is anyone here on Trileptal?
I have been on it for 1 year now and I don't know if it's working or not. I am a bit confused about its purpose first of all. I was told it was for panic disorder, if that's true, it hasn't helped at all. I just started taking Klonopin a month ago because my anxiety and panics have skyrocketed. Why would my dr. keep me on Trileptal? Does anyone have any info? I would really appreciate it.
Thanx

I take trileptal, it's for Bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders (at least soemtimes), and epilepsy. I like it alot... If you're not gettign reasutls on it for anxiety, you could perhaps try something else such as an SSRI for this along with the trileptal and an occasional dose of Klonopin.

Thank you for responding so quickly. I was only on this morning. Um, I do take an SSRI Luvox?
Heard of it? It's not supposed to be one of the greatest considering it's side effects. But I guess they affect everyone differently?
I was told by many that it makes you violent. My pdoc even told me "be careful, because the guys who planned out the whole Columbine tragedy took Luvox". Now, I'm just repeating what he told me. I have no idea about that, I just know that thath was something that shouldn't have happened because the signs were there before it took place. Parents should've been alittle more into their childrens lives than they were. Anyway, do you know anything about Luvox? I've ben on so many different meds and nothing seems to work well enough for me to feel like I FIT IN. Ya know?
I have been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder, MAJOR Social anxiety disorder, OCD, (although I am not a consistent hand washer...) I do rituals so that noone in my family dies. (If you understand that) I just want to hear from someone who has the same problems? that I have.
Thanx for responding and caring.
Luv and Take care of yourself

My hubby was just given an Rx for it this afternoon. He was also simultaneously diagnosed as bipolar and probably ADHD. He will be starting Wellbutrin tomorrow morning along with Effexor so I want him to wait on the Trileptal so that if anything goes wrong we'll have some idea which drug is causing it.
I don't care much for his p-doc. This was his first visit to this particular one. I've read about trileptal online and it's supposed to be one of the easier mood stabilizer but also causes unsteadiness. He's already unsteady on his feet due to stroke. I'm also concerned about escalating his angry agitated behavior. These docs don't live with him and I do.
I'd really, REALLY like to hear from other folks who are on trileptal and especially those taking antidepressants too. Is it possible to ever get off the antidepressant? (in this case Effexor). The costs of these drugs, even with insurance, is impossible. I can't believe all this med plus 3 blood pressure meds and thyroid and allergy meds are such a good idea.

Oh god,
If your husband was dxed as bipolar, what the *ell is he doing on antidepressants alone?! is his pdoc really sugessting this?!He should get on a mood stabilizer first and then possibly add an antidepressnat. Not the other way around; it's very dangerous for BPs to take on ADs.
rethink that decision or change doctors.

Since you mentioned the cost of these meds being so high, I myself would stay away from Effexor. I know it is prescribed for generalized anxiety disorder and depression, but the withdrawl is not something you should experience when paying such a high price for meds.Effexor didn't do much for me, but make me lazy, not much ambition,...I am now in the process of getting off of it and it's the strangest feeling, not a good one. Ask his doc if maybe he could try something with less withdrawl like Paxil. I had good responses to paxil for bipolar, anxiety, social phobias, but it seems that every med I was on so far, you reasch a plateau, and get no better from there. I guess you just get used to the med that it has no more effects on you. I am now on Klonopin along with Luvox, and the trileptal. I seem to be having success with this combo so far, (it's been 3-4 months now) But each person is different. It WILL be a long and trying experience. It is like a mix and match meds game. Until they find the right combo for your husband, hang in there. It will be trying, but there's hope, you'll see.
If you don't mind me asking, Is it that you have no med insurance or no prescription plan?
I think there are some plans out there thhat might be somewhat helpful.
Give me a few days and I'll try to see if I can find them again

Hey there Jenncat, I also take Luvox... I'm wondering if it maybe isn't the right med for you if you're still having panic attacks and whatnot... maybe another one would be better... another option is to up the dose. It took forever for that darm Luvox to do anything, at first it made me hypomanic and wierd, ugh... now thigns are calming down.

To follow up, as things have changed and more discoveries made ...
My hubby went off Effexor much too fast - he became terribly agitated for several days. I sent several faxes to P doc who told him to go back on Effexor but he didn't want to knowing he would just have to go off it again. He was very mean and shaking and after a few weeks complained to a psychologist that I was mothering when I did what he wanted me to do. The psychologist foolishly believed him and told me we would have to get a divorce. We're still married at 33 years. No thanks to psychologist.
Unfortunately, the story gets worse w/Trileptal. He was falling down all over the place, even falling over accidentally on the 4 x great grandson of a famous writer at a festival!!! He had a lot of trouble walking. Since the side effects of withdrawing from Effexor in 1 week were so bad, it's possible they exacerbated the reaction to Trileptal. He did feel better on the Trileptal but was becoming more and more disfunctional physically. About that time - end of Dec, 2004, we found out he had MS ... and that Trileptal aggrevates the symptoms.
In Jan., 2005, he went to a new P doc and was put on Lamictal which we raised very, very slowly. No problems at all but at first it seemed like it didn't do much either. He was on Wellbutrin at the same time (time release) and thankfully did not have the depressive episodes. I began to suspect it was part of what made him agitated and hyper. In about the summer of 2005 he gradually went off Wellbutrin and stayed on Lamictal alone. I think that was better but he was still out of control. I suggested 400 mgs a day to P doc who agreed - again we did it very slooowwwlllyyy! After a period of several weeks I would have to say it helped. No rashes or other real side effects. And, he has multiple sclerosis, too. He admitted he can finish some tasks now that he couldn't before (can concentrate more) and he doesn't tremor as much and he's somewhat less hyper. It does have a slightly flattening effect on personality but not completely. He still can fly into a rage very quickly. All in all, I'd say that so far Lamictal alone is the best deal - whoever wrote and asked what he was doing on the antidepressant alone when he's bipolar (or mood disorder) was absolutely CORRECT! Thank you!
This is the end of the thread.
