Celexa + Effexor = suicidal ideation???

Posted by Camille Dumont on February 14, 2004, at 18:03:39

I don't understand whats happening ...

Been on Effexor 300 for many months ... with mitigated results.

Pdoc added Celexa 10 (which from what I understand is a super small dose) since I seem to be sensitive to drugs.

This my second day taking it and all I can think of is slashing my wrists, jumping in front of a subway or stabbing myself.

I jsut don't know what to do / think ...

I think you should call your Pdoc or go to an ER if you feel that you might act on your thoughts.

I agree with AntiTrust - get your butt to a safe place as soon as possible. I tried to kill myself while on Effexor XR and suicidal thoughts were not something I ever had. Take it seriously, like a heart attack. For now get yourself with friends who understand the situation or family or to the ER and tell them your thoughts.

It isn't worth losing your life over a drug side effect.

Hi there, still alive.

Didn't go to the hospital but I stayed at my boyfriend's place instead so that was safe. I prefer his company to sick people in a waiting room.

Back at my place tonight because I'm working tomorrow. I don't see a pdoc on a regular basis ... only as needed because she's really good but is in the private sector. I'm going to go see my regular doc though ...

I never had anything like that when I took Effexor ... but a bit on Zyprexa. It too me aback a bit I guess, especially from such a small amount.

Thanks for caring :)

Personally, I had a lot of ideation and SI when on Effexor. Glad to not be taking it anymore..

Glad you're doing better..

You know, sometimes I feel like I don't "remember" how I used to be without the meds and I wonder wether what I feel is really the sickness or just some freaky side effects.

I always find myself perplexed when the doctors ask wether I'm doing better on the medicine. I mean how can we tell wether its the pills making you better or worse or if its simply you getting better?

I expected scary side effects from anti-psychotics and such ... never from some wimpy AD like celexa. But then again, it is the only AD I've tried aside from Effexor so I've had no previous experience with SSRIs.

This thread concerns me. First, I am glad to read you are feeling better. I have been on Effexor XR for something like three years (300mg...seems to need "adjusting" every couple of months now) and I have serious SI. It hits me out of the blue sometimes, but definitely if I am late taking my meds (I usually take them upon waking but when running late sometimes end up heading off to work forgetting...I try to keep some in my desk or in my purse but my whole brain is fried and my memory seems scrambled half of the time). Anyhow, by the time I get off work, the thoughts have already started. When my Effexor is working, it's a miracle drug. Keeps me more stable than I have ever been. But the short half-life screws me up quite often. In talking with my pdoc, he mentioned switching me over to Celexa. He said we would slowly ramp up the Celexa while I wean off the Effexor. I know what I am like after one day off Effexor and I have to honestly say I am scared of what I "might" do while coming off the stuff. Especially if Celexa magnifies those feelings/urges. I moved up my next appt with my pdoc to discuss this.

This is the end of the thread.
