What's the word on LIBRIUM?

Posted by anxiety_free on August 13, 2004, at 22:58:22

Hey! I take a tricyclic, a stimulant, and klonopin and propranolol daily. Overall, I feel good. But there are times when I'm consumed with anxiety or rage or frustration, an the klonopin just doesn't calm me enough to let me be productive and focused. I've talked to my shrink about it...he thinks maybe an add-on as needed tranquilizer would help. I've read that higher doses of librium are used for SERIOUS anxiety, etc., so I was curious to see if anyone had tried i. If not libium, what could I try? My shrink says xanax might be the way to go, but I don't really like it. thanks in advance!

Of all the benzos I've taken, librium is probably the tamest - by that, I mean, I never got "high" the way you might with valium, ativan, or xanax. Maybe that's just me.

I found librium to be easier to get off of but like any benzo, dependency is still a problem.

Dependence is not addiction and if you really need a benzo it isn't a problem at all. I would go with your doctors advice and try Xanax as needed or switch to Xanax xr.

Xanax affects serotonin and have an antidepressant effect of it's own which is unique among the benzos.

Hi ,
I've tried hugh number of benzos (Alprazolam (Xanax),Bentazepam,Bromazepam, Clobazam,Chlordiazepoxide(Librium),Clorazepat (Trenxene),Clonazepam (Rivotril/Klonopin),Clobazam,Delorazepam ,Diazepam (Valium),Estazolam,Flunitrazepam (Rohypnol),Ketazolam,Lormetazepam,Lorazepam (Ativan),Midazolam,Nitrazepam,Oxazepam (Serax),Triazolam ,Tetrazepam,Tofisopam,Zopiclone,Zolpidem)....to name some!....
And regarding getting " high" I think Xanax and Valium have the most effect.
- Regarding dependency , the most difficult ones were Xanax and Ativan
_ Regaqrding getting off them, the BEST BZ for sub. is ,without a doubt BROMAZEPAM (Lexotanil,Lexomil,Lexotan..), that was the one that saved me from the other BZ......It is the middle - of - the road BZ :
It has a tame effect without highs
It has the least cognitive, sedative and memory impairment effect
It has amiddle hafe-life (approx.20 hours)
It has inter mediate potency..not very potent like klonopin or least potent like Oxazepam
iWithdrawal from it was always very easy and you can go to a very low dose (1.5mg)

- I agree that both Librium and Valium come second and third in the list of substituted BZs

-Anyway,this my personal experience, and I welcome any comment regarding Benzos and AD's...oh! and by the way,Xanax taken by itselfe does not give"antidepressant effect" ; and is no where near something like the gold standard Imipramine(tofranil)..all it gives is a buzz and a high and more escalation and dependency....

Regards.
