Lexapro withdrawal

Posted by Sybill on July 30, 2004, at 10:21:47

I recently started to wean myself from 10 mg Lexapro daily... went to 7.5 mgs last week, plan on moving down 2.5 mgs at a time, with about 2 weeks in between at each lowered dosage. My question is this... since I've lowered my dose, I've been feeling nauseous and have had flu-like symptoms... is this normal? Or I should rephrase that... is this typical?

Yes, they are normal withdrawl symptoms. You could take some Benadryl or Phenergan to help with the nausea & other symptoms. Your plan to taper off sounds OK. Don't step down the dosage again until the withdrawl symptoms of the last step down are gone.

I was having a terrible time with Lexapro withdrawals. I went form 10 to 5mg and was stuggling. I have since gone slower and that has helped. However, what has made the biggest difference so far for me has been Gingko Biloba. It has had a very positive effect in reducing the headaches and dizziness. Give it a shot. ALso, I have been taking immunocal from the www.prozactruth.com site and that seems to help with the nausea. I am cutting to zero tomorrow night and I now feel like I can do it, whereas I wasn't so confident a few weeks ago.

I use to take Lexapro and got off due to severe anxiety, but I didn't have withdrawls from this drug. I did however, have extremely horrible withdrawls from Effexor XR (flu like, vomiting, generally out of it for about 3 days). I was on 300 mg a day, went to 150 mg for one day and then quit. I have never had withdrawals from stopping Zoloft, Wellbutrin or Lexapro immediately. I really think it depends on the drug and your body. Good luck and hope your feeling better soon.
