Hi all, After talking with my PDOC, I'm switching from Adderall to Wellbutrin to help with ADD/depression. I could not tolerate even a small dose of Adderall XR's peaks and valleys. It's frustrating because the adderall works but I hate the daily meltdowns from the comedowns (I get an increase in anxiety) and the valleys. I was told that although weaker, wellbutrin has a smoother effect. I'm just going to take 150 mgs of the XL version. I was on adderallXR 5 MGs. three questions for my fellow co-posters questions, which one is more notorious for anxiety (i know they both can cause it)? Second, is the wellbutrin smoother in effect than the adderall? Finally, is 150 mgs of Wellbutrin equivelant to 5 mgs of adderall or is it stronger or weaker? If anyone knows the answers to these questions, it would be great, thanks!

cpallen:
I have ADD-inattentive. I got a good response to Wellbutrin (for a day), but got an allergic reaction to it as soon as it started to work.
Strattera took care of anxiety for me. It was pretty dramatic. I’m grateful for it.
It took until almost the two month mark to get over the sedating effect. I needed to increase it a month later, and then went through five months of sedation, with anxiety returning every afternoon by about 4:30 and increasing all evening. Two days before I was going to give up, the sedation disappeared and the anxiety-relief lasted all day again.

Have you tried other long acting/time release stimulants like Concerta? Sounds like the adderall helped. Dexadrine is similar to adderall which is already fairly long acting.
Most people feel drowsy or grumpy coming off a stimulant and perhaps anxious while on it. Some people take a short acting ritalin in the afternoon or even at bed time to get through that.
Wellbutrin is much milder than the 'real' stimulants but in combination may work for you.
This is the end of the thread.
