Buspar Taper- need Help

Posted by cpallen79 on July 11, 2004, at 21:47:42

Hello, I've decided to taper off of Buspar (does it even do anything?) because I want to take Trazodone to sleep, and there are known interactions between the 2 of them... I only take 15mgs of Buspar, but I want to taper appropriately to avoid discomfort (I recently had a shitty reaction to Seroquel and don't need ot feel worse). Any recommendations on how to do this? Thanks

Buspar doesn't require a taper, I've simply stopped taking it and experienced no withdrawals, and then recently started again and had no problems. I went from 30 mg to 15, then 0, then back to 30 mg when I realized it actually WAS doing something. the pills are easy to break in half so you can go to 7.5 mg and see how you feel. good luck

Same here... I was taking 50 mg Buspar and one day decided to just stop - no withdrawal symptoms. Unlike when I tapered off of Klonopin...

I hear Klonopin w/d is a mother from hell. How are you doing with that? Did you get through it ok?

I did get through it OK - I was taking 2.5 mg daily, and tapered down over the course of 3 1/2 months. Toward the end, I was breaking 0.5 mg tablets into quarters. The worst part was going from .125 mg/day to nothing - bad anxiety for about 2 weeks, and then things got better. Stopping the Buspar was a piece of cake compared to all this.

Actually... nothing. I found out that my anxiety was coming from untreated sleep apnea. I started using a CPAP back in January, and that along with exercise has made my persistent anxiety go away.

Excellent! you have kicked a benzo, and kicked your anxiety! I personally think that is great. I will be going to a sleep doc one of these days. Sleep is a major thing, if you can't get enough, you're a mess. kudos to you for your hard work Brian.
