Hi to all,
I have myself weaned off from klonopin almost cold turkey without any problems. If you are curious about the dosage, mine was most of the times 3 mg a day. But I have seen many posts in this forum, people trying hard to get rid of their klonopin habit. Again there are even more posts, people finding it hard to stop their Effexor, Paxil or similar antidepressants intake.
So I have a question here for experienced guys. which meds are the worst in terms of withdrawal problems? Effexor? Paxil? or Klonopin like benzos?
Or simply how would you rate (Effexor-Paxil) withdrawal Vs (Klonopin-Xanax) withdrawal?First of all let me add my own contribution to this survey. I haven't tried Effexor or Paxil, but have tried a similar SSRI called Anafranil. For me anafranil was very hard to get off. Rebound depression and restlessness turned me to the edge where klonopin came as a blessing. Now after six years on klonopin I stopped it completely without any problems at all.
People wonder why there are not any detox centers for antidepressants yet many are there around for benzos. The reason I understand is, antidepressant withdrawals usually mimic the symptoms of severe anxious depression and is conveniently being treated in psychiatric clinics. It is easier for a doc to tell the patient, your original symptoms still remain, so that you can't get off Effexor or Paxil. I would have done the same and fallen in Anafranil trap if there was no klonopin to save me.
So seeing not detox centers for antidepressants don't make them clean as long as psychiatric clinics exist.

What is your advice for the loved ones who watch someone going through these side-effects? I'm trying to be supportive but it has been so draining...sort of feel like i'm being dragged down too. I'd appreciate anything. Thank you.

HI,
I beg all of your pardon. I forgot to add, I am not at all against Effexor, paxil, prozac , klonopin or xanax etc. I know some of us can only function normally with a medicated brain. I myself take the substituted benzamide sulpiride at a low dose level to keep a cool head.
So taking medications to function normally is not a sin. But it is mischievous to discriminate them as one is addictive and the other is not.Arguemtns are often made as use of antidepressant drugs are not being frequently monitored as benzodiazepines because they are not reinforcing agents as the later. Unfortunately this is only handy for Docs if they forget or ignore the fact of dependence induced by these antidepressant agents. When withdrawal complications arise, they simply suspend them as the re-emergence of original symptoms and Rxing again and again for the same. Trapping a patient in a medweb is like sentencing him or her for life. Many patients have fortunately been able to stop hard meds by substituting them with softer stuffs like ativan, xanax or klonopin.

I tried the same in a post above. But there was not enough support. So let me try again. May be this time I will be lucky.
Effexor, Paxil, Klonopin and Xanax. If you have experience in coming off these medicines, How would you compare the withdrawal complications? Which is worse? Effexor or Klonopin? Paxil or Xanax?
Please answer

> PLSI found Effexor and Xanax difficult to come off. Klonopin was easy, but you still have to go slowly and taper the dosage. Have not tried Paxil.
This is the end of the thread.
