Has anyone tried any natural remedies for anxiety that have worked for them? I desperately don't want to spend the rest of my life on meds and I am researching this area.

hello there, chemist here....regardless of whether you are taking a pill or an herbal remedy, you are taking a drug. if you take vitamins, you are taking a drug. if you drink alcohol or coffee or tea, you are taking a drug. what you need to come to terms with is how severe your anxiety is, and how willing are you to ingest uncontrolled and unregulated substances in lieu of pharmaceuticals that are more strictly controlled? all the best, chemist

The switched me to Lexapro, depakote, and zyprexa. I felt fine on the Ativan, although the withdrawals were hell. The Lexapro, depakote, and zyprexa have been a bad experience. I am always fogged up and spaced out. I want off those for sure. My instinct is to go back to the ativan. However, I was thinking about trying the natural approach first or in conjunction with ativan. My fear with the ativan is being able to find a doctor that will willingly prescribe it long term.

> However, I was thinking about trying the natural approach first or in conjunction with ativan.I had started off with the herbal and nutritional approach, but just recently got my doctor to prescribe Ativan. It feels very much like the Valerian root I tried so long ago, but would only work for a week. (They both work on GABA.)
Other herbs kind of worked, but it was impossible to find a consistent strength.
It seems that herbal remedies are great in theory, but in practice western pharmaceuticals may be more useful.

Well, if I have to stay on the Ativan, then that is OK. All I know is that I hate the Lexapro and Zyprexa. I am in the middle of wicked zyprexa withdrawals right now and I am moving on to Lexapro next. I'd rather not stay on Ativan for the rest of my life. That is why I will try so hard to find an herbal route to ease my nerves, but at least I have the Ativan as a back up.

The term 'natural' as opposed to "drug" or "chemical" is purely a legal distinction, not a medical one.
