I was wondering if there was anyone else out there who have had a bad experience with Effexor? I tried Effexor for my anxiety once and wish i never did--it made my anxiety 100 times worse and that worsened anxiety never seemed to go away, i still have it. I think it just totally messed up the chemicals in my head. Why the heck would the FDA prescribe this crazy drug for any anxiety disorder? - it might help some people but damn---im sorry i tried it and sure there are others out there---speak up against effexor

for me effexor acted basically as a placebo and nothing more. Luckily when I came right off it cold turkey I had no side effects, as so many on here speak of.

hello there, chemist here... the FDA did not prescribe effexor to you: your doctor did. you took it as per your doctor's orders. you state that you took it ``once:'' you really mean you ingested effexor *one* time and are in such misery? please inform of course of action of medication, as your post more than insinuates that a one-time dosing of effexor leads to a miserable after-life.....all the best, chemist

Effexor is my pdoc's next choice for me if the Lamictal I'm currently on isn't sufficient - I'm hoping if it's necessary that I can combine a _small_ dose of Effexor with the Lamictal, which is a stabilizer with both A/D and mild anti-anxiety effects, and would hopefully tone down the Effexor. But I'm really scared of the drug from reading so many of the posts here. I suffer from GAD mixed with depression, and the last thing I need is more anxiety or hyperactivation!
The manufacturer claims (with some statistics, to be fair) that Effexor is the only drug that cures depression, not just partly relieves it. But maybe that's like saying, if you hit your head hard enough with a hammer, your headache will go away....
So I can't speak for or against Effexor yet, not having tried it, but I do find it hard to believe that any SSRI will make me less anxious - my experience with Paxil and Celexa was the exact opposite, and they're mild compared to Effexor, by all accounts.

I dunno. So far my experience with Efexor has been almost entirely positive- no particularly nasty side effects, except for dizziness & nausea the first 3 days.
It could well work for you.

Well what I meant is that I took it at one time for about 4 weeks, not just one pill. It might work will for others for anxiety, but for me it made it worse. The reason for this thread is that I wanted to see if there was anyone who takes or took effexor that made their anxiety alot worse. No offense to anyone taking this durg. This drug could be a godsend for some -- including my mother in law.
This is the end of the thread.
