withdrawal from Zoloft

Posted by ladydee54 on May 8, 2004, at 18:59:48

I took 100 mgs of Zoloft for about 3 years.
I was very effective and I really did well on it,
except I gained quite a bit of weight, and also my feelings were beginning to feel artificial, if you know what I mean.
Long story short, I spoke to my MD about tapering. I did taper as she said. When I was down to 25 mgs every other day, I had the head zaps like crazy, even had to miss work.
She then put me on 10 mgs of Lexapro, I was supposed to taper there too, but only took it for a week, then went off, I figured the dose was so small anyway. I have been off the Lexapro now for 10 days, the head zaps and dizziness are terrible.
what to do? I am terrified that I may have permanently damaged my electrical system, YIKES, and I wonder just how much my MD knows about this stuff. If I go in for help, she will just want to put me on something else. Also I hear ringing in my ears from time to time.
Emotionally btw, I am fine, it's just these zaps and dizziness that have me wondering if they will ever ever stop. I don't think I can afford the Immunocal, is it really that effective.
Any input is appreciated.
thanks

I was in seroquel and lexapro for only a few weeks and when I stopped taking it I would get those kinds of zaps you are talking about, but they would only seem to happen when I began to relax or near to falling asleep. Anyway, it scared me to death wondering if it was permanent or something but it ended up going away completely in a few weeks. I think you are just getting bad withdrawals, IMHO withdrawals are the worst part of medicine or drugs, some people attempt or succeed with suicide during it because it is so horrible, especially those on heroin or opium.

i have had the zaps too. they tend to go away after a while. i think they are harmless. but hell can they be annoying! i got them when i suddenly quit my meds, thinking i didn't need them anymore a while ago. i went to the emergency room b/c i was having them every couple seconds for hours on end. the doc there said that my neurotransmitters were "dry" meaning that i had shocked my brain. he really didn't do anything for me. just said to go back on the meds.

FWIW , don't worry about having to afford the Immunocal.......it is hyped up New Age -Scientologist invented crap. You don't need to detox. I will admit that w/d can be very unpleasant and even scary ....coming off of these types of meds is hard and patience and Dr. understanding is prudent-all these effects -all though very bizzare are just your CNS and brain saying goodbye to a psychoactive med! Try and Relax and ride it through these things will pass!
Best wishes
