chemist here.....atarax is a very potent antihistamine....you'll likely fall asleep rather than addressing the akathisia....might i ask what has precipitated the akathisia? another drug? all the best, chemist

Thanks. I already take klonopin...I tried Inderal, cogentin, and Benadryl. I don't even know why my doc would suggest Atarax. With Benadryl, I bought the children's liquid and took 1mg (instead of the normal adult dose of 25mg) and still got knocked out for 12 to 18 hours. I have hypersomnia. I wish instead of anti-histamines, there were pro-histamines...that would not help the akathisia but it might wake me up.

my suggestion: stop benadryl. look into ritalin, adderall, or dexedrine. all the best, chemist

>Hi River,
I had hypersomnia, I was sleeping 12+ hours a day & feeling like I could use more. I started taking Remeron, the worlds most potent antihistamine, and after a month it reduced my sleep time down to 8 hours & I wake up feeling great. I use to think of it as a pardoxial type reaction like giving amphetamines to an ADD sufferer to calm them down, but I now know that it's the 5-HT2A blockade that has improved my sleep. You could try some Zyperxa or Seroquel with your Abilify. There is a thread towards the top of the board about Abilify & one poster is combining it with Zyperxa with success.
Cheers,
Panda.

I wish that I had a guarantee that I'd wake up after a month. I hate to change meds again. My doc and family tolerate my changes but it is getting old for all of us. I need something for depression, disorganization, reduced memory, social anxiety, suicidal thoughts, sleep apnea, hypersomnia, and for good measure weight loss. But it sounds almost like a dream to wake up refreshed. Did remeron do that for you? I'd almost be willing to try it for that. River
