I'm 25, male, in good health, and 99% sure I have Social Anxiety. I was wondering about Paxil, and medicines like it. How does it work? Say I take it for 6 months, will the SAD symptoms come back immediately or will they go into remission, so to speak. I've read about the side effects and was wondering that since I'm healthy and young, will the side effects be lessoned or not there at all? Thanks.

I've been on Paxil and the two things that bothered me were sedation and difficulty achieving orgasm. The latter, I've found, gets a bit worse with age. It also depends a lot on dose. Despite what Glaxo would have everyone believe, Paxil is not too crash hot for Social Phobia/Social Anxiety Disorder. The best drugs are phenelzine (Nardil), a MAOI, and clonazepam (Klonopin), a benzodiazepine. If you have depression as well, fine - an SSRI would be advisable, though probably wouldn't be enough by itself for the SAD.
