Hi crazychickuk,
Valium has been an absolute god-send to me and I don't know how I would have got through some days without it! 10mg of Valium kills my anxiety dead in its tracks and its effects last for around 5 hours for me although I have heard that its effects are supposed to last longer.
I generally take 10mg and I have read you can take 10mg up to 3 timed a day (30mg per day in divided doses).
If you are unhappy about taking 10mg, try 5mg and two large brandies or scotches or some other strong alcoholic drink. You aren't supposed to drink with Benzodiazepines but all alcohol does is intensify the effects of the Valium meaning you don't have to take so much. But please, it may be unwise to drive or operate machinery while under the effects of the Valium and alcohol!!! Its also a good idea not to have to much to drink with them as they will really knock you out!!
On Thursday last, I was at work and had a really bad anxiety attack. All I had on me was 3 2mg tablets (6mg) which really isn't quite enough for me so I took them anyway and then went to a local pub and had two large brandies! Within half an hour my anxiety had vanished and I felt great!!
As long as you don't take Valium too regularly, (as it can be habit forming) it can be one of the best drugs out there for anxiety.
Hooray for Valium!!
Take care.

Klonopin is a better choice for regular, long-term use because you are less likely to develop tolerance to Klonopin.

I started taking valium in conjunction with Celexa. When I first started taking both meds, I was going through a very difficult period so I was taking valium regularly to battle anxiety. If I was in the midst of an attack, I found that 2 5mg's would help calm me down.
Fortunately, the panic attacks aren't so frequent anymore so I mostly take valium before bed to help me sleep.

True, Xanax works faster than Valium, but its a shorter acting drug and with long term use, the user is more likely to suffer from more severe withdrawal syptoms than a longer acting Benzo such as Valium.
