Traditionally, this is associated with tricyclic antidepressants and other drugs that have a strong histamine blockade, such as Remeron. Blockading histamine H1 receptors seems to induce a craving for carbohydrates in some people. However, this is not the case with Effexor, which has zero affinity for histamine receptors. In your case, the increase in your soda consumption must be occurring by some other mechanism.Todd

Stryker,
I don't know the whys or hows, but I just wanted to chime in to say that this is my experience, too. I have sugar cravings and cravings for chocolate that I did not have before Effexor (actually it started with Paxil, but continued with Effexor).
Try to drink water instead of soda, btw.
I'll be following this thread to see if anyone has the answer to your question.

Oh great...
You mean this explains the chocolate ?
It's been BAD.... :-(Sure would be nice to stop feeling 'quite' so guilty.

There are posts about Effexor causing people to become heavy drinkers & gamblers as well as other binge eaters on this board. Is it helping your problems?
Cheers,
Panda.

Are you sure the sugar cravings aren't from something else? When I was only on effexor I did not have an increase in sugar cravings. Then I started a number of other meds and sugar craving is OUT OF CONTROL. terrics
