Intense pain? AND zyprexa as needed?

Posted by phoeb on April 8, 2004, at 15:35:42

For nine months last year I was severely depressed with severe anxiety -- tried all the SSRI's (made me more anxious and agitated, felt that my brain was on fire), some tricyclics, 25 ECT treatments, and I kept getting worse. The psychological pain was so severe I repeatedly said I would rather all my limbs be cut off without anesthesia than feel the pain I was feeling. Some days I locked myself in the bathroom and screamed for hours because of the unbelievable pain. I repeatedly envisioned my body cut into little pieces, wished that were so.
First, is it common for depression to cause such intense pain without lethargy, etc.? Is it a certain type of depression? Has anyone experienced this?
Happily, Nardil was the lifesaver. But for months after starting it I cycled exactly every three weeks between being completely FINE and horribly depressed. At least I had regular periods of relief, though.
THEN, one morning when I started my bad part of the cycle, I was so anxious that I was afraid I would commit suicide just to relieve the severe anxiety. I had some zyprexa leftover from when I tried taking it regularly at night and decided to take it that morning. MIRACULOUSLY, I felt better within an hour, AND that was the end of my cycling. I've never experienced anything like severe anxiety again (it's only been a year, but still...)
Now, whenever I get very upset (usually from the trauma of the depression itself; I actually have PTSD from it) I take a tiny dose of zyprexa and it helps immensely. It does make me feel a bit dopey, but it's well worth it. It seems like if I cut of the anxiety at the bud it inhibits a snowballing effect that leads to a depressive cycle.
Anyone else have a similar experience with zyprexa "as needed?" I recommend to anyone with severe anxiety or even severe crying jags to try a small dose of zyprexa as needed.

You and I seem very similar. Our depression seems to be very linked to a deep psychological pain.

I explerience the same thing oftentimes. I feel this intense feeling of having been so utterly wronged. Sometimes I feel that I as if I am in hell and can barely distinguish where I really am.

I take zyprexa as needed as well. It kind of brings be back to reality. Zyprexa and other atypicals have been lifesavers for many of us. They can sometimes treat certain symptoms which
nobody can really put their finger on.

I have found that 2mg of Stelazine (Trifluoperazine) mildly helps my terrible depressive anxiety that I used to get. I used to take that on an "as needed" basis. Now I take it everyday, and it does help.

Trouble is, its action is only mild, and upping the dose makes me very apathetic and can make my depression worse.

I want to try an Atypical anti-psychotic, such as Amisulpride or Zyprexa, but my stupid doctor refuses to prescribe me any, even though my Psychiatrist has wrote to him. I think my Psychiatrist is just going to prescribe it to me in the future.

>Nevertheless, you should be aware of Zyprexa for SYMPTOMS OF ANXIETY AND DEPRESSIVE ILLNESS THAT MUST SIMPLY BE CONTROLLED NOW!! It can decrease anxiety, agitation, even the overall negative feeling called "dysphoria" -- WITH IN 20 TO 30 MINUTES! It has a profoundly calming effect in many people. It can stop "racing thoughts" that can be one of the most severe symptoms of bipolar disorder, especially in Bipolar II -- as well as the more obvious symptoms of paranoia or delusions as seen in Bipolar I. Sometimes tiny doses are enough to help a lot, and these doses do not seem to so commonly lead to weight gain (2.5mg is the smallest pill; sometimes even half of that is quite useful in bipolar II).

I think it is emotional pain. I had that priety severly for a couple of years. I would do stuff like not eat or sleep or position myself badly. Anyway the pain is emense. And the zyprexa I take got rid of it.
