I am BP1 with ADD. For the BP mania, I take 20mg of Zyprexa nightly and wouldn't be without it -- it's done far too much good. For the ADD, I take 20 mg of Ritalin up to 6 times a day.
I have tried other stimulants, such as Adderall and Dexedrine and they had little effect on me. I guess the Zyprexa is overpowering the effects of these amphetamines. But for me, up until recently, I did get ADD relief from Ritalin and with it, my world came into focus. Now, the Ritalin effects are fading away, even at the high doses I take. What's left for me to try? Oh, I forgot to mention I've also tried Strattera and Provigil, but always came back to the gold standard I found in Ritalin.
Suggestions for anything else I can try would be greatly appreciated. I am mourning the loss of the full effect Ritalin had on me for more than a year, but now it's, like I said, fading away.

that is everything. Desoxyn {methamphetamine} is not new, but utopzien can tell you all about it because is a potent yet seldom used drug for ADHD.
Desipramine and imipramine {tricyclic antidepressants} are also used for ADHD.
Cephalon is working on getting Provigil dosing right for ADHD and approval for it from the FDA: http://www.cephalon.com/newsroom/inside_cephalon.html
I'm sure if perhaps you switched to an anticonvulsant that your experience with stimulants would change dramatically.
It's no wonder you take so much ritalin on that huge dose of zyprexa.
That Zyprexa just really doesn't give you an accurate view of what other stims or any stim is like.

Also, Aricept {anticholinerase}and perhaps maybe Namenda {NMDA} someday, are used off-labael of learning disabilities like ADHD. Anti-parkinsonians like Mirapex and others are used in ADHD populations too I believe. They are dopamine agonists.

I wonder how difficult it would be to find a pharmacy that carries it?

Treat the mania so I don't lose my job or my marriage like I nearly did in the past, or treat the ADD so I can focus on the things I am faced with in my Zyprexa-induced state of reality.
Thanks for your input.

Zyprexa (olanzapine) is very sedating because of its histamine-1 antagonism. Perhaps another, less sedating dopamine-2/serotonin-2 antagonist like Abilify (aripiprazole) would be more suitable? Also, how about lithium?

>Thanks for your suggestions, but I tried Abilify and it made me very anxious. I used to take lithium but it didn't do anything for my mania, so we moved on to Zyprexa which works very well.
