mood swing help

Posted by kettou on February 24, 2004, at 12:58:11

Can a day ever go by without them. You set foot outside your door and it hits you like a ton of bricks. I take parnate and lithum and feel down by 3pm. I have been struggling for so long and have tried so many meds that sometimes I just want to throw them all away. The deprssion is tiring and life can become overwheling. When does it end! With every new day I say this is the day that it will be different and by the end of the day it starts again. I would love to hear how people deal with their bipolar. My thoughts are oh so scattered. The projects that you create never get done, you forget to take you meds, and your memory is like that of some twice your age. I hope someone can relate and help me feel not so alone in the everlasting Bipolar struggle.

you are not alone, we are all here with you. How long have you been on parnate and lithium?
do you see a therapist at all? you may want to consider this if not, sometimes works.and even though it sounds like you tried em all maybe you need to try some new meds, maybe even a different pdoc? -just things to consider
I understand the scattered thoughts in spades! can't hold attn long enough to even complete a sentence.
dealing-I force myself to use treadmill three times a week sometimes i'm like a hampster on it othertimes like a slug and crying but either way i do it. i sketch (conté and some charcol- and paint (acrylic), and embroider, and quilt among others. so YES i totally understand looking at MANY unfinished projects. When i'm feeling better i try to take one of those projects and work more on them. I've actually come to rely on those unfinished works when i'm strong with suicidal ideation, that i can't leave these works unfinished. Sometimes i just drown myself in my music and art for hours. Though i have not completed them, i am thankful that i started them, that at least i'm working on it.
-sorry this was so long.

I also have scads of projects I started in a manic period then fizzled out. At least they're sitting there when I'm ready to get back to them. As far as waking up ready to face the world and then having the day fall apart - well I try to do what I can when I'm good, and just accept it when the day has tanked. At least you did what you could when you could. I can count two days I rate as "A-1" since last September. Thankfully they were this past week. Perhaps there is an improvement coming? Also, working with a therapist helps me hugely. (BTW I see lots of posts regarding transference. I try to remind myself that I'm actually paying this person to talk to me!! So much for the self esteem issue....)

Hi:
To be frank and honest, Bipolar takes time, ... probably at least two years from the day when you were dx'ed, that is VERY realistic term for Bipolar, unfortunately. Then, if you're in a hurry to try to fix Bp, there might be more confusion inside you. First, you may need to face the truth of this illness, Bp that is one of serious mental illnesses next to shizophrenia, whether Bp I or Bp II.
At the beginning, most of pdoc. are hesitant to say the truth on this, but from the experience along with the reading/hearing, Bp takes quite a while to get under control.
In regard to 'mood swings,' ... it sounds to me like you've been experiencing 'Rapid Cycler' because of frequency of your cycling even within one day, for that you may need not only Lithium also a potent med. like Anti-psycho.med. like Seroquel, Zyprexa, Risperdal and few moe newer ones to name.
Talk to your pdoc. at your next appt., because this form of Bp condition is NOT hard to control as long as you have a right med. combo. But, it might be NOT easy to find a right med. that would suit to your symptoms.
H.G.

**Oh you are soooo not alone. I have all those feelings too.
I just had a wonderful 5 weeks of great energy - enough to get myself a 400K home (I am a grad student and wait tables). How it all happened is a puzzle to me. I'm really burning out now though. It's a gooooood thing to own a home and for that brief hypomanic period I'm thankful b/c it got me the energy to buy a home (and all the work involved). BUT talk about projects left unfinished!! i'm starting to lose energy and become depressed and I have to move my things, tear down wallpaper, paint, decorate, shop for washer/dryer and furniture AND find housemates (to make my mortgage). it's feeling overwhelming!! to say the least.
I just started back on meds to help me through this. Trileptal and I see my pdoc on Wed. next week and will hopefully start on Paxil or WB in addition.
Katia
BPII
Trileptal 150mg
Fish oil 12g
Seroquel 20mg

Yes,
It's a newer and slightly different version of Tegretol - with less side effects supposedly.
