I do not know what is in that "diet pill", but if it is effective (read: a stimulant), you are risking overstimulation, high blood pressure, and a general feeling of malaise.
If you want a diet pill, go with phentermine, benzphetamine, diethylpropion (same chemical family as wellbutrin), phendimetrazine (probably not too effective), or mazindol. OTC stuff is usually snake oil. Sibutramine isn't too effective, either, AFAIK.
Only generally, though. Strangely enough, you could lose weight with high doses of Kava Kava. That might balance out the Wellbutrin with a nice anti-anxiety effect. If you use this for long periods of time, get liver function tests.

These pills you listed wouldn't be a substitute for Wellbutrinwould they? Because originally I am on WB for depression. However, I have been taking Metabo-fx with it. Before the diet pill I had more of a sex drive than originally, but now that i am taking the diet pill I am turned on almost all day long.
A simple touch drives me nuts (which is very frustrating) On the up side though I have been taking off many pounds that I had gained from Paxil because of the combo.
Since they both make you a little more jittery, combined could it be a problem for my heart?

They could, it really depends upon your chemistry.
They probably could, to varying degrees. For depression alone, it's probably best to simply take the Wellbutrin alone if you like its effects. However, if you're trying to lose weight, perhaps switch to Tenuate (diethylpropion)? Good luck getting a doctor to replace your Wellbutrin with it, though, or prescribe it long-term for depression. I've never taken it, and can only say that it's probably as good an appetite suppressant as amphetamine. Also, do not take it with Wellbutrin. They're so similar that it might increase the seizure risk.I believe Wellbutrin is slightly thermogenic in and of itself; perhaps you should just be honest with your doctor and try upping the dose with diet and exercise. Taking stimulants (especially OTC ones) + Wellbutrin is something that, unless you are an experienced stimulant user, you should talk over with your doctor. The risk of high blood pressure, etc. is very real.

The daughter of an acquaintance of mine died just before Christmas 2002 from a heart attack caused by combining Wellbutrin and Adderall (Adderall is now used for ADD, but was originally a diet pill). She was a college student who was prescribed the Wellbutrin by a physician, but she took the Adderall on her own, without telling her doctor, when she was cramming for final exams in Dec. of 2002. I've met quite a few posters on this site and others who are able to successfully combine Wellbutrin and other stimulants, but I've also met those who get very sick from that combination. If you intend to combine Wellbutrin with a stimulant, please do so ONLY under medical supervision and proceed very slowly and very carefully!

Wow. I am sorry to hear that, and thank you for the advice.
I have just been trying to lose the weight so badly I have been taking my meds with the diet pill, exercising, and barely eating. Since I have had problems in the past with anorexia, I should probably pay more attention to what I am doing.
Plus, I definitely don't want to risk death over something as stupid as a minor weight gain. Thanks

I'm currently on Wellbutrin XL and Zoloft and I've been taking diet pills (Xtreme Trim) for a few weeks now without any major difficulties. (I think it depends on what's in the pill.) You may want to start with 1/2 a diet pill and see how you do.

Are you serious? How did this happen? I am really interested in this topic since I am on wellbutrin {wish I could quit, but I am not sure what to think of it after about 10 months back on it}, and I just started provigil. I also take trileptal. I don't like wellbutrin all too much anymore because I think it makes me irritable.

Yeah I have been taking this combination for about a week now, and I am starting to feel a tad strange. (unless my mind is playing tricks because I am thinking about it)
Lately when people have been talking to me I am zoned out. I hear sounds, but I am not quite there enough to make out words. Also I have been having adrenaline rushes when just sitting around. (of course this has happened many times before)
Mainly the major problem I am having is insomnia, and spurts of energy from no where. I am usually able to get a good nights rest, but last night it took me 4 hours of lying in bed awake to fall asleep. I had to get up 3 hours later. When I came back home I felt tired, but was unable to sleep.
The other problem is I have no desire to eat. (which I would be happy with if I hadn't been through this before) Food smells good to me, but the actual action of eating makes me feel sick.
So I am beginning to understand why this is not the best idea.
This is the end of the thread.
