I'm a mother of three and just had my son last year. He was healthy, no problems for the first year, I even breast feed him,I dident my first two, And as soon as I stopped, The bomb dropped.
He was sick all the time by this time he was one.
It started with diaherra all the time with a bad bad odor to it the vommiting started then bosts with broncities and other lung stuff. We had thought we saw it all then one night after we but him to bed with me he seem to wake suddenly but after turning on the light we saw he was not awake at all he was completly out of it and very scarred I had never seen a child be so horrified and not be able to help him, what ever we did it dident help, his eyes wear bulging and he could see something that we could'ent. I't lasted several minuts then he came out of it and was shaking terribly, We took him to the childrens hosp. and they told us it was epilepy and we can not believe that that was what was going on , after doing several test and having several more ,(episods). We asked for a sleep study on him and our getting one now but this has been going on for a year now and we still don't have answers, and have seen all sorts of Dr. at the Hosp.
His first problems were handle very well i't seems he's senitive milk. But what about this now?
Could they be night terrors? The Dr's are in such a hurry to put him on meds for epilepy and I don't want that.
Please help

Sometimes kids who have a high fever will go into convulsions. Doctors will *not* encourage you to put a child who has these febrile convulsions on anti-epileptic drugs, so if they are diagnosing his condition as a seizure disorder (epilepsy), then you should pay attention. They should be able to distinguish between night terrors and seizures. Get a second opinion if you haven't done so already. Consider putting him on anti-seizure medication, because it could save his life.
My kids had problems digesting food after I weaned them from breast milk. They both got goat's milk (smells disgusting, but less than soy formula.) I kept them off cows milk and all grains except rice. My daughter couldn't digest acidic fruits for a while, either. Sweet potatoes were *the worst*. They gave her putrid chalky diarrhea. I don't know if my caution was justified, but they are both pretty healthy. My daughter has pollen allergies like her father, but neither kids had the constant strep throats that both their father and I had. They didn't get ear infections, either, so I hope I did something right.
If your son is constantly sick and underweight I'd ask to see a gastroenterologist (digestive specialist) and an immunologist.
Best of luck,
Ilene

It's difficult to make even a tentative guess since your son has a wide constellation of symptoms--both physical and emotional--and I think most people on this board would feel more inclined to talk about the emotional/psychological issues. On the other hand, it's very possible that all of his symptoms are interrelated; emotional turmoil could also be triggering the physical symptoms.
The only thing I feel halfway "qualified" to guess at, is that your son has exerienced night terrors. It was found that the drug Klonopin (Clonazepam) has been quite effective in treating this disorder, as well as epileptic seizures. Unfortunately, I doubt if this drug would be appropriate for a one-year old.
Perhaps it could be safe in minuscule doses, but even then you should do whatever you have to do to get a doctor(s) who are qualified to diagose his condition without playing guessing games.

My daughter works for a center with handicapped kids (epileptics, fragile X syndrom, autistic, downs syndrome, etc).
Those kids who have seizures (epileptic, and some other types according to their diagnosis) have symptoms like you described. They would be in a "daze" almost paralysed, scared looking, then shake when coming out of it. The staff is taught to hold them (so they don't hurt themselves by hitting their head, or whatever) until the seizure is under control. They are on various medicines depending on their diagnosis.
They are often very tired after it is over.
I pray you will find a diagnosis and the right therapy and/or meds.
This has got to be scary for you, but as a Mom, you just have to hang in there till it's fixed or at least under control.
This is the end of the thread.
