Lexapro weight change

Posted by ellenasks on February 3, 2004, at 17:22:11

Has anyone noticed a weight change on Lexapro? I feel like my appetite is decreased, and I'm eating less, but I'm gaining weight anyhow. Has anyone has a similar reaction?

I hate to say this but I think it might be a paxil in sheeps clothing. The scale just keeps on going up despite diet and exercise. I hope i am proved wrong, because Lexapro sure does make you feel pretty good.

Hey Ya'll
As for me, I am on 10mg of lex for about 6 and 1/2 weeks. I gained about 5 lbs but started watching my diet (following weight watchers) and working out. So far two of the five have come off. How long have you all been on, what dose?

I've been on 10 mg for about 3 weeks. When I went on, I was in strict diet/exercise mode in an effort to lose the last 15 lbs. from having a baby. The scale's been steadily going down for months, but within days of starting the Lexapro, my weight's been heading steadily back up. I'm eating well and exercising regularly. Very frustruating -- will the weight gain end?

I always lost weight on Celexa and Lexapro due to the initial appetite suppression. Always. I figured this was most people's experience, but I guess not.

Do you guys find that you crave more of certain foods, or do you think it's a direct metabolic effect? Or perhaps it's just "serotonergic apathy" concerning what's eaten. ;)

As for me, I think the metabolism changed. I am forced into aggresive cardio exercise everyday. I do this to fight this slow down in metabolism.

Lexapro also causes me to have constipation too. This can be due to a slow down in the GI tract too. I don't think this is just an anticholinergic effect. I am having to increase the fluid intake and fiber to combat this effect too.

Yes, initially, I had a decrease in weight. This was due to a lack in appetite. The nausea was really rough in the beginning. I think the increase in serotonin is also a factor in the increase desire for carbs.

So, in essence, I think all of the factors you mentioned are at play with the weight changes.

Also, I think there may be a correlation between the dosage and in how much someone may have a change in weight. When I was on 5 mg/day, I had no change. However, when I increased 10 mg/day, there was a sudden change in the way my clothes fit.

For those of us that have had an increase in weight, it appears that we will have to work harder in maintaining the weight through drastic change in diet intake and increase in physical exercise.

This has been my truth.

Hi~
I have tried B12 and Fish Oil for weight gain. The Fish Oil seems to help with constapation and the B12 seems to help with water retention. Plus lots of water. Seems to be helping but I can't be sure yet. Any similar experiences
