Adderall and cold hands

Posted by Interject79 on January 25, 2004, at 15:35:23

Any useful ways of dealing with this?

Anxiety is minimal, but peripheral vasoconstriction is still a problem. Dextroamphetamine probably causes less of this...

Best wishes,

gloves? strange.. I always used to have more problems with cold feet.

probably, I think the l-isomer acts more peripherally, makes you wonder why adderall was ever invented in the first place? Maybe the l-isomer has a longer half-life.. anyhow.. why not convince your pdoc to switch you over to d-amp?

Thanks. Would be good to ask about Dexedrine Spansules, though I like Adderall XR's mechanism.

My feet get cold also. Niacin or Ginkgo might helpful (at least in theory)?? I'd like to minimize supplements like that though.

i don't mean to be simplistic, but i always just started using my hands and feet by moving in a way to target my circulation there if i noticed their coldness. It was the healthiest solution.
This may not be what you want to hear, but it didn't happen so often, nor at all, finally, when i started to take short daily walks - aerobically moving my hands as well while i walked.

My Adderall SR dose was 45->80mgs xdaily, depending on what i required, and every week i took a minimal one day "holiday" from it. This was the very best and optimal plan for me after many trials of dose and different Adderall RXs =-->no side effects.

Thanks for this thread. It never occurred to me that the adderall could be a factor in my freezing toes. There are other viable reasons I could attribute the cold toes to, but perhaps addrall is one factor, as well.

I have been trying to keep my toes moving to prevent the problem, which, of course, is worst when sitting still a long time, esp. during the winter.

Hopefully helpful information will come from it. Moving the hands and feet is certainly sensible. I've found it only works for a short time and must be pretty rigorous.

When I did some searching, I found a few OTC hand creams which apparently help improve circulation to the hands and feet, mainly by way of L-Arginine. This might not be a bad idea, especially since you don't have to ingest something that might counteract the stimulant's benefits. Good in theory, but...

Let me know if you come across something useful.

Best,
interject

Well, I can't say for sure that Adderall causes or exacerbates cold toesies and fingies, as I had that problem since losing a lot of weight while on Wellbutrin. I have been on the amphetamine salts for 3 weeks now. I am still cold in my hands and feet, I don't know that it has gotten any WORSE during the past 3 weeks. However, considering how much the generic Adderall I take (20mg twice a day) along with WB 150SR X 2, has improved my ability to concentrate, and provide mental clarity, I will wear gloves and winter socks in Summer rather than stopping it! It has really been a God-send for me.

Me, too. I have put up with some side effects because of the positive effects of my medications. I'm just waiting for the better meds to come along that don't cause the SEs...and waiting, and waiting.....
