My husband and I want to have another child but are concerned about complications/birth defects/learning disabilities of the child if I am taking Paxil CR during my pregnancy.
I am also taking .5mg of Klonopin 2-3x daily. I have read where others have been pregnant while on Klonopin and had no complications with the child after born.
Does anyone have any information they could offer?
I so much want to have another child.
Thank you!

I have not read anything on pregnancy and Paxil specifically; however I have read recent articles on SSRI's (Paxil is an SSRI) and pregnancy.
SSRI's taken during pregnancy have not been implicated in birth defects. But we don't know 100% for sure. Doctors should advise patients to weigh the benefits of taking SSRI's during pregnancy against any potential risks.
So if depression would be a major problem for you in the absence of Paxil, you may want to continue on it. This is definitely something to discuss with your doctor.
Some antidepressants do get in the breast milk. I'm not sure if Paxil does. Once again, check with your doc. From what I've read, the nursing baby could get somewhat lethargic for a period of time after breast feeding.

Hi, my sister just had a beautiful, healthy baby boy (5 mths old) and she was on Paxil through out her whole pregnancy for Social Phobia. There was just no way that she could go with out obviously. But who really knows what the long term affects are.
This is the end of the thread.
