> Hi everyone.
> I'm starting week 2 on Lexapro and I haven't cried since last week. So that's good. The nausea seems to be easing up as well, but I would really like to sleep. Everyday I wake up about 3AM shaking, and lay there for 3 hours trying not to let the anxiety attack fully develop. I know I'm whining a bit, I have to be patient, I've just never taken anything like this before. The attacks are lessening a bit everyday. I'm just looking forward to the day I can sleep all night again. Thank you to all of you for making me know I'm not alone...Hi Missy,
I wake up at about 4pm after about 5 hrs and then can't sleep anymore. Drives me nuts. I am usually pretty calm in bed but then in the morning when I have to face the day fatigued my anxiety level then rises. Then I get depressed. I have found that I can only handle 5 mg of Lexapro currently. Is this a similar experience to anyone of you guys? I am in mid 4th week and am worried that my dosage is too low and am scared to raise it. Restoril as a sleep aid is only somewhat effective and I want to stop it anyway. Can anyone recommend an effective OTC sleep aid? Thanks all-Steve

>I took TylenolPM to help sleep, lots of posters also have used Benadryl. I started at 5mg, and around end of 4th week I started to feel worse ( increased depression and anxiety attacks). Pdoc raised dose to 10mg and that helped me.
Good luck to you.~~~8|8

> Good luck to you.~~~8|8It helps to cycle thru the OTC sleep aids. Tylenol PM and Benedryl certainly help. Melatonin has also helped at times. The best help I've ever had sleeping is with Trazadone. I don't develope a tolerance much to it, and I'm able to wake up in the morning unlike my experience with Ativan. Trazadone has very inexpensive generics available but it requires a doctor's prescription. Good Luck. Insomnia & depression/anxiety go hand in hand.

Kimberly,
I have a prescription for trazadone but am a little worried about taking it. Can you describe your experience? Isn't it a pretty heavy duty drug just for insomnia? Will it counter the effects of the Lex? Best-Steve

I've taken Trazadone with Effexor but not Lexapro. It was effective to counter-act Effexor's insomnia side effect but not Effexor plus Strattera. Trazadone prescribed for insomnia is a lower dosage than when prescribed for depression. I have no problems with it. Take it only when you know that you won't be driving anywhere. The sedative effect can be strong. I recommend starting at 50mg first before going to 100mg. When I first started taking it, if I had to get up in the night, I felt extremely dizzy. I had to cut the pills in half (100mg pill) for about a week before I could take 100mg with no problem.
My husband rarely takes his trazadone because it makes it difficult for him to wake up in the morning. i wake up "bright-eyed and bushy-tailed", ready to go. drugs affect everyone differently.
