I have a research paper to write for English class on a current debatable issue in Psychology. I'm sure many of you have great ideas and I would really appreciate your input. Thanks so much.

The use of the new atypical antipsychotics for disorders other than schizophrenia or schizophrenic like disorder.
There is some good debates going on about that right now.
Example - Some doctors are prescribing them for Panic Disorder, insomnia, Depression, etc., and that is before trying all the other available options out there, like Anti-depressants, and benzo's and anti-convulsants.
The side-effects of atypical antipsychotics, are weight gain, diabetes, TD, and other movement disorders.
Anyways it is an idea.

You could also write about whether mental illness is nature or nurture, i.e. how much is caused or affected by the physiology or chemistry of the body and how much is the result of experiences. That's definitely a topic of debate. Be warned, however, there is no right answer at this point.
Good luck!
