When taking Lexapro (10 mg in mornings), is alcohol absolutely forbidden anytime during the same day? Even if after three weeks my Lexapro side effects are minimal and I'm merely having a glass of wine with dinner? (Okay, a couple?)
Is there some interaction between SSRIs and alcohol that makes their intermingling a really bad idea?
I know drinking generally a bad thing when you're depressed, but I miss my afterwork cocktail SO-O-O badly!
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

My p-doc made a big deal about me drinking while on lex, (i think more bcos of my dual diagnosis than medication) but i've had a few drinks and been fine...sometimes after a few sips, i don't even want to drink anymore (which is weird for me) and in general the past few months i haven't wanted to drink much at all...in moderation i doubt it would cause any serious problems
anyone correct me if im wrong
BUT alcohol is a depressant so drinking might negate the positive effects and an ANTIdepressant

I have been able to drink in moderation on lexapro (3 or 4 beers when out with friends) and havent noticed anything different..if anything i think it feels like i am less affected by alcohol than i was before taking lexapro..but thats just me..i wouldnt go out hell bent on getting drunk while on the med though..thats probably not a good idea..

I am just starting Lexapro but when I was on Wellbutrin I had a really bad experience drinking. I seriously almost died. I had a couple of drinks and was suddenly very drunk, drank another and became very sick. I had an EMT with me who helped me through it, but if you do have a drink, be careful, they catch up very fast. I would not want it to happen to anyone else!

Oh my gosh, that sounds like what happened to me. I was fine one minute and the next couldnt even stand up. I blacked out because I dont remember most of what happened after that. The next day I felt horrible, actually for two days. I have never had an experience like that even in my younger days as an inexperienced drinker. It was scary.

Exactly! Everyone out there, be warned, drinking on these medications can have very serious consequences. Make sure people with you know what is going on if you do decide to drink. Better yet, don't drink alcohol, even a sip. Just tell people that it ruins your metabolism, which it does! Peace and good health!
