Zyprexa great but worried about poop-out

Posted by Guy on December 30, 2003, at 18:22:50

After seven years of suicidal hell I have finally found Zyprexa to help with my insomnia and anxiety. This med has saved my life, but now I am worried that it will poop out like others have done in the past (e.g doxepin, trazedone and clonazepam). I understand that anti-psychotics do not poop-out with long-term use. Is this true? BTW, I don't care that this drug is not as safe as others...I will not go back to my pre-Zyprexa existence regardless of the risks involved.

I know how you feel - Zyprexa saved my life, too. I don't blame you for wanting to stay on it, regardless. I was on it for two years without any poop out. I hope it works as well for you.

I am glad that you are out of suicidal hell, I have experienced that myself.

good luck and take care...

HI there..

Pardon the butt-in...i have another question about zyprexa and atypical AP's in general.

I'm new to zyprexa as well. I'm a rapid cycling bipolar II...(a rare breed). I've found some relief with just 2.5 mg of zyprexa. I've been calmer and sleeping better.

one problem though...have you experienced this??? I'm having bad stiffness in my joints..esp. my hands. it's difficult to type this message. i just called the pdoc to report this, and i'm waiting for a call back.

Have you fellow atypical AP users experienced anything like this? If so, did it go away over time??

Scared stiff,
Katy

Hi:
I just wonder how long you've been on this med., Zyprexa. At the beginning of Zyprexa, my experience was sleepiness/sedating effect. Even, 2.5mg made me SO sleepy. BTW, my side effect from different psycho. meds., is I always sleepy. Then, no surprise.
Back to your question, ... 'stiffness' in the joint, ... I never had, nor heard either. However, I feel the stiffness in the joints is something like 'arthritis?' Some people experience 'neurological problem' such as involuntary jerking and strange muscle spasm. Then, it might NOT be from Zyprexa. If does, probably it's due to interaction with other meds. you've been on. Lithium causes 'hand tremor' along with other annoying side-effects at the start of Lithium. Gradually, all diminishes, or at least lessen its side-effect.
Either way, it's precautious for you to call the pdoc. whenever unpredictable episodes occur.

Hi Fluffy:
Risperdal is one of AP meds, as we all know. Then, Risperdal has similar property/formularity to Zyprexa. Both meds. might have came to the market about the same period, ... just in my guess. Even, some of Bp saying,... Risperdal has more strong efficacy/effectiveness in comparison to Zyprexa.
However, you may take the newer AP med., such as Abilify and Geoden that has lesser side-effects and manufactured for that purpose, ... because some of M.I. people is intolerable to side effects like yours.
Friday is just one and a half days' away, .... in the meantime, according to your symptoms and side-effect, you could take even 1.25 mg. by cutting in half. At least, I did that at the start of taking Zyprexa due to sedation I experienced even during the day, from Zyprexa I consumed before going to the bed. Either way, it's wise to follow your pdoc.'s instruction tho'. Side-Effect like yours needs EXTRA cautious measure, ... even not taking Zyprexa at all might be a good idea rather than taking any risks on your neurological aspect. In that respect, I believe that you are all aware of.

Hopefully, everything works OK upon meeting with your pdoc. and get appropriate med. combo.
H.G.

Hey man,

It's weird, I wouldn't say a "strong" AD effect...but when all the noise and negative B.S. in your head stops, so does the accompanying anxiety, which leads to depression...I was taking Effexor but it was...not really pooping out, but it just wasn't dealing with the anxiety or the obsessive negative thoughts that I would dwell on...which lead to social anxiety...sort of a vicious cycle. The first Geodon pill I took I felt very silly happy...hard to explain...the next few pills...I am not kidding...just wiped out all of the noise in my head...I swear to god...I felt calm and normal...I felt like I was really safe and grounded and one mellow happy camper...I have finally gotten off the Effexor and now I am just taking Geodon...digging it to say the least. I take 20mg at lunch time. This med has a very short half life (6.5 hours) so you can definitely feel it wearing off...I get a little anxious or irritable when it starts to wear off...at this point I hit the gym or I take a walk. There are so many pdocs that go crazy with the doses...I like to start off at the bare minimum and then increase if absolutely necessary. Could I take another pill, yeah. But if a walk will augment the meds then I prefer that solution. If they had a 10 mg pill I would take one in the am and one in the pm. Also, you must take this med with food or a huge glass of milk...it won't absorb if you don't...learned the hard way...took it on an empty stomach and it didn't do jack. Hope this helps.
